I don´t quite get it : the news is that the x-ray is at check-in, but I think it is upon arrival, after going through the green line that is supposed that you have nothing to declare... Can anybody explain to me me which is the actual new procedure ? Thanks !

Typical confused Nation article, they are so poor.  It says on check in but that they are checking for people importing contraband.  Think it must be on arrival.

Viagra overdoses can result in a range of cardiovascular symptoms including chest pain, fainting, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, heart attack, and, rarely, death

Thanks for that info.

Now how quickly did you use your 10,000 Viagra tablets?

That is exactly what I thought. I only wonder where on earth they will find space to install those new 23 x-ray machines at Swampy ...

Probably on the same lines as Malaysia.

You clear Imm' collect your bags and then stick them through the machine before leaving the airport.

They already scan every piece before they board it into the plane, every airport does that obviously as you don't want to have dangerous goods in the plane.

This is for people arriving i suppose. Else they would scan it twice now.

I am not aware of any airport where they scan all arriving peoples luggage at exit.

I am

????Will this make it more difficult to bring in my 10 kg of imported cheeses & one frozen Butterball turkey from USA?

Meat products may be a big problem.  Last week on a QANTAS flight from Oz they specifically warned passengers about pork products for obvious reasons.

And to think so many members of TVF came here to escape a Nanny State.     ????

And to think so many posters have not,  apparently,  travelled through a Thai airport. Supports my theory that many posters have never actually been to Thailand, at least not in the last 20 years or so.

I fly in and out from Perth to BKK every month and haven't had issues for the nearly 3 years I've been doing it. Admittedly I do pay 1100 baht to go fast track once I land in BKK and on the way out so that cuts out all the crap and long lines at Immigration. The only thing that gets on my nerves is almost every time it's a crowded bus ride to and from the plane at Swampy. To pull up at a gate would be a welcome change.

I thought fast track had been discontinued and only business/ first class passengers are able to use fast track lane.

It would appear that departing passengers will go through the same security procedures as they've been accustomed to, and that the new security procedures to be implemented will only affect incoming ARRIVAL passengers.. All arrival passengers will have increased security screening will all luggage, carry on and checked, going through new x-ray screening at point of departure from immigration green and red channels..

So any smuggled in salami, legs of lamb and ham, sausages and other smallgoods will be more easily discovered in the x-ray screening process.. In the past, it was always luck of the draw whether you had an x-ray screen leaving the arrival hall..

In more than 5 years I was always lucky and never had my luggage checked, except for my most recent arrival where I was randomly selected to have my luggage screened.. Shxt!! Three staff behind the screen looking intently at the monitor as my suitcases pass through.. To my amazement, all ok!! Maybe my foil lined cooler bags managed to camouflage the contents, I don't know..

And those long stay expats returning after a trip back from their home country with their 12 mths supply of meds, because they're either cheaper from home or not available in Thailand, it will become more difficult to hide, as legally one is only permitted to bring in max of a 30 day supply..

Interesting times ahead with Immigration further tightening the thumb screws..

You can actually purchase frozen beef airside duty-free to export from Australia.. Australia has very strict bio-security procedures in place when importing any food products including meat, cheese, egg products, seeds etc. But for export from Australia nothing that is legal is taboo.. You need to look at the legality of importing the goods to your destination point. All countries have differing immigration and customs regulations in place in regards to what is permitted in and what is contraband..

Great you have it all figured out then.

I'll wait and see

I don't know for sure, but it seems highly likely from reading the article and from putting two and two together.  And if so it will be a hugely more efficient system than most airports where you all get herded to a scanner.

Let's see indeed.

Last month at Swampy i found a full bottle of drinkingwater in my handluggage that i had forgotten about. I discovered it while waiting at the gate but the scanners missed it!

I went through the DOMESTIC departures at Swampy on Wednesday and they spotted 40ml of water in my empty bottle! But yes, I have gone through with a full bottle before. Strangely at Schiphol airport last month I was told you can carry through a small water bottle, or even a carton of fruit juice!

At Gatwick airport on Tuesday the only time I had to show my passport was at the check-in desk. After that only my boarding card. Did make me wonder if you could get a friend to book you a flight and give you the boarding card. Nice way for criminals to flee the country ….. Or maybe with Brexit looming they just want everybody to go!

Went through the body scanners in Los Angeles. They tell you

everything out of pockets. I didn’t realize I had a paper receipt in

my pocket. Then it’s through extensive second check. Felt like I

was at Dr. office ... turn your head and cough

Don’t fly UIA or Air China they X-ray everything more than once and make you open your case and take something out every time

Same thing happened to me in Manila, Philippines. But it wasn’t the airline....it was Nino Aquino International Airport security itself.

Worse airport in my opinion. Went through all my stuff and back through the scanners again THREE times. I had to unpack and repack everything not once...not twice...but three times. Had to repack after each scan.

For what???  My temper started running short. I was using some colorful words under my breath.

Plastic has never done a lot for me.

Why that huge? What is the limit?

All that extra weight has to do bad things to the shoulder and lower back muscles after a while constantly having to balance those massive breasts.

I think I might choose now to live in India, or Cambodia or Vietnam or Philippines......or a South America country like Equador or Paraguay, or Columbia or Costa Rica, Panama or Belize.

Just visit Thailand now and again. Thailand used to be so nice and easy to get a long term O-A visa and stay long.

Now it’s more and more difficult.

If everyone would just take a second and breathe, it is quite obvious.  I think a lot of people failed their comprehension GCSEs. There will be NO extra time to scan everyone at the exits.  There are two exits.  You think they will have 23 scanning machines there?  Where would they put them all?  There are 23 baggage carousels.  It is entirely obvious that the luggage will be scanned on the conveyor up to the carousels.  23 carousels, 23 scanners.  It is not rocket science.  You won't even know it is happening.

Thank goodness someone else has got it.

This proposal was first suggested a couple of years ago and as soon as I read the article I came to the  same conclusion as then, and that was that luggage would be scanned downtairs as it's being loaded onto the conveyor, completely out of site and probably not slowing things down at all.  You can see similar systems in many of these fly on the wall TV series about airports/customs.

Suspect baggage will be communicated to the customs guys at the exit to the baggage hall, where the current X Ray machines are, and they can pick up the victims there.

X Rays may well not be manned 100% but the deterrent factor is still there.

Exiting the airport may be even quicker as X Ray on exit may well be removed.

If they said all farangs must wear dog collars with tracking devices 24/7.......

You would say my dog wears a dog collar and he does not seem to mind....So if dog collars helped keep out/and track down the bad guys I am all for it I have nothing to hide...

Luggage checks and dog collars...only to farangs... Confused? Desperate? Just Thai bashing?

fascinating, if disturbing to know that you have such faith in the Thai media that you would "put two and two together."

Relax, and don't be too suprised if reality has nothing to do with a newspaper article.
