Underground cable

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a very bad job done in the garden.. Want to change the cable in place (located in horizontal water gutters!!!!) and put it underground.. I know which cable has to be used in Europe but went to homepro and they are unable to help ...

Could you pls give me proper reco (brand, type etc..) to enable me buying the right cable.. (for 6 strong lamps in inondable lamps).. depth etc I know..

Would also like to know what PEA norms are and link for those PEA norms please

Have a nice afternoon

The cable you need for underground, either in a conduit or directly buried is NYY http://www.sk-wires.com/en/nyy-power-transmission-wire-thai-yazaki/

You may be able to get it from your local electrical specialist store otherwise contact S. K. Universal.

Their English speaking man k. Bell is very helpful.

As to the cable size, it's unclear what you want to run and the distances involved, if you could clarify that would be very useful.

I would say that if it's garden lighting I would strongly recommend going for low-voltage (12V) lights with a transformer in the house. Much, much safer and less hassle than running mains.

As far as PEA are concerned, what goes on on your side of the meter is your problem. They (mostly) don't care once you have passed the initial inspection for a permanent meter (billed at about 4 Baht per unit).

Hello,

Thanks very much for your quick answer..

Actually it is for the small condo where we live but want to get involved as this sh.. job was done by electrician through management supervision and decision 2 months back..

The light goes on every evening with the inside common areas lamps at 7 and goes off at 5.30 morning.. we have to change the garden lamps.. but I don t know if they would agree to 12 V.. Getting proper cables would already be good..

The lamps are back side of the condo on approximately 50 to 60 meters

It is in Pattaya.. Any idea where I can find and how much is this cable cost if you have any idea.

A smart electrician with reasonable price versus quality would also be appreciated if you know one

Have a nice afternnon

A lot depends upon the cable routing. Voltage drop could be a problem when the cable length is 50-60 metres. LED bulbs are available that transform to the needed d.c. drive for the substrate. There's no need to transform at the supply before leaving the building.

As you want/need to run the supply cable underground the standard is: IEC 60502_1. Cables are available from; The Bangkok Cable Company (google it). So, any cables with the logo and/or spec number will be fine if you're shopping at somewhere like Global. In any case check the labels before installation.

The cables should be buried at least 1 foot deep and there's no need for additional armour or conduit.

I recommend that you ensure that the installer grounds the armoured sheath at both ends.

Your RCD (if you have one) would also be fully functional with this option.
