plum77
My husband is taking Citalopram and needs to have more medication posted from uk to Koh Samui. Is this possible and what do we need to send with the parcel. Thanks
RotBenz8888
Isn't Citalopram available on Samui? It's quite a common medication.

dddave
This TV topic from last year. Sheryl's response is particularly germane to the OP's question.

When searching for availability in Thailand it does not look that common (here). Importing drugs is not allowed without permission from the Thai FDA. And as this is a psychoactive substance I would advice even stronger against sending via parcel. Find a clinic/doctor to consult. Bring a sample pack with you. Maybe the forum doctor @Sheryl comes to the thread.

Ask and find out whether it is sold over the counter (or "under the counter" ).

To import any medication you require a licence, which you'll be unable to get. Citalopram is not currently available in Thailand. It is licensed, but no wholesaler imports it. Better to consider alternative medications which are available here.
Sheryl
As above, citalopram is not available in Thailand. However escitalopram is available and is chemically very similar. It is sold without prescription under brand names: Lexapro (imported, expensive) Escitalopram Sandoz(ditto) Esidep (Indian generic) Esopam (local generic) Jovia 20 (local generic) Most people who do well on citalopram will respond equally well to escitalopram but you should of course clear this with his doctor first. Note that the dosage equivalent is 1/2 that of citalopram, i.e. someone on 20 mg of citalopram would take 10 mg of escitalopram.
