We did our 3rd marriage extension this week at Sakon Nakhon and were asked for the first time for a new Kor 2. IO explained to wifey that they've been told to be on the alert for bogus marriages, hence this latest requirement.

Actually I would happily pay 12,000 for extension and multiple reentry on a zero stress basis, but they would still give hassle Yesterday when my wife went to local Ampur they remembered she had only recently got the form from them they could not believe immigration being so difficult She took the form back today, one of them asked her why were we selling our house, she remarked we were building smaller as I was very ill, one said could he buy it he liked the pictures, she replied yes its 44M, (TRUE) its on the internet, yes we are marked !!!!!!!

A pity - KK Immi. has always been pretty good and easy to deal with but maybe this is a sign that they're going the way of so many other offices throughout the country. Tony M
I also did my 10th Marriage extension last month (at Jomtien). For the last 9 applications I have submitted 3 photos of us together inside (2 photos) and outside (one), plus they take one at the immigration office of us together. This time, the lady said she wanted 6 photos. When I asked why, no answer. She processed all of the documents, and then said to bring the extra 3 photos in later the same day, or the documents wouldn't go to Bangkok. Plus, they visited the condo the next day, the first time in 10 applications.

richiejom
1 hour ago, spidermike007 said: Yes, the rules are onerous and abusive. For a marriage visa, the major hurdles should be cleared the first time around. There is no sensible reason for them to keep the hurdles so high, on each and every subsequent renewal. I was considering switching back to the retirement visa, as the hoops they make you jump through for the marriage visa are silly. I think what they are saying is: We do not approve of having a Thai woman (one of our own) married to a foreigner (a martian from another planet) so we are going to continue to make your life difficult. We do not like foreigners, so we are not going to show them any respect. We really do not want foreigners living here, so we are going to continue to make it tough, every step of the way. We will not be friendly, we will not be helpful, and we will not be cooperative. I think it often depends on which officer you get as well... sounds like the OP got bitten when he complained with the old 'if you don't like it you can....' You just have to be thick skinned and don't get lolled into a false sense of security...

Interestingly the map we attach to the marriage extension, is a copy of the one that was rejected nine years ago, keep using same map just to prove the point, that time my wife hand drew a map for them, that was accepted

They know how to treat servants. Some can be quite patient with you but others very rude...I remember one rejecting my embassy income letter for no apparent reason in Jomtien to switch from a tourist to a non O. I think it was because I didn't get the little certified sticker from MOF in Bangkok or something. She didn't state this though, when I was in MOFA the translater said it didn't need to be certified because it was from my embassy Ive since been told I wouldn't have needed the 'little sticker' on it to get the marriage extension but only the switch to non O and that Jomtien is renowned for being difficult and making up rules. I'd rather do runs every 3 months to avoid all that, I hope that option stays hassle free Edited July 26, 2019 by richiejom

You just have to be thick skinned and don't get lolled into a false sense of security... The last time I went, I got a rather fat and nasty woman, who gave me and my wife, a very, very hard time. Everything was no, no, no. You need to drive back and get this form, and that form, and three copies of this, and four more copies of that. I said NO! I complained. I made alot of noise, and asked for her supervisor. The office manager came over (she was the head honcho) and asked what all of the fuss was. about, as you could hear it from all over the office by then. I calmly explained that this was simply a visa renewal, nothing had changed, and I was being asked for even more than the already unreasonable amount of documentation we had already provided. She asked the fat lady to move out of the way, and did it all herself, and told us in a few weeks we would be informed of the visa approval, and we could come back to pick it up. So, sometimes it helps to push back, to a point. Frankly, I do not like immigration here one iota, and do not defer to them very much at all.

I haven't experienced any scamming or extortion since opting for this method from 2009 onward. I also don't have to do the 90 day reporting. My first experience with local immigration for about 10 years was this week when trying to get a letter for driving license renewal. And sure enough they wanted 600 baht for it when there is supposed to be no charge. They all seem to operate their own little fiefdoms. They asked me for 500 baht and I refused, still got it by asking to see the head.
