Maybe because I don't show them up in front of an office full of people. My guess is you are going to have a hard time every time you go to immigration in Buriram.

Not a problem. I'll let you know in the coming weeks.

Never heard of this one before?  Can someone please explain.  Is it something new, Ive never had to do it before.  Or is it something exclusive to the KK office only?

We did our 3rd marriage extension this week at Sakon Nakhon and were asked for the first time for a new Kor 2. IO explained to wifey that they've been told to be on the alert for bogus marriages, hence this latest requirement.

Does anyone use agents in KhonKaen, maybe pay up and avoid stress

You are then going to be doing exactly what they want. More money to them.

Actually I would happily pay 12,000 for extension and multiple reentry on a zero stress basis, but they would still give hassle

Yesterday when my wife went to local Ampur they remembered she had only recently got the form from them they could not believe immigration being so difficult
She took the form back today, one of them asked her why were we selling our house, she remarked we were building smaller as I was very ill, one said could he buy it he liked the pictures, she replied yes its 44M, (TRUE) its on the internet, yes we are marked !!!!!!!

Last Marriage Extension at KK in November, I used my KR2 from 9 years ago, the same one I've always used.

Looks like we might have to get an updated one if the contents of this report are correct and this is going to be the norm. It's not a problem, just one more piece of crap to deal with.

A pity - KK Immi. has always been pretty good and easy to deal with but maybe this is a sign that they're going the way of so many other offices throughout the country.

They are just enforcing the rules

I also did my 10th Marriage extension last month (at Jomtien). For the last 9 applications I have submitted 3 photos of us together inside (2 photos) and outside (one), plus they take one at the immigration office of us together. This time, the lady said she wanted 6 photos. When I asked why, no answer. She processed all of the documents, and then said to bring the extra 3 photos in later the same day, or the documents wouldn't go to Bangkok. Plus, they visited the condo the next day, the first time in 10 applications.

From reading the posts after this I'd say I won't be the only one, irrespective of the office location.. Seems to be across the board.

Yes, the rules are onerous and abusive. For a marriage visa, the major hurdles should be cleared the first time around. There is no sensible reason for them to keep the hurdles so high, on each and every subsequent renewal. I was considering switching back to the retirement visa, as the hoops they make you jump through for the marriage visa are silly.

I think what they are saying is:

We do not approve of having a Thai woman (one of our own) married to a foreigner (a martian from another planet) so we are going to continue to make your life difficult.

We do not like foreigners, so we are not going to show them any respect.

We really do not want foreigners living here, so we are going to continue to make it tough, every step of the way. We will not be friendly, we will not be helpful, and we will not be cooperative.

I think it often depends on which officer you get as well... sounds like the OP got bitten when he complained with the old 'if you don't like it you can....'

You just have to be thick skinned and don't get lolled into a false sense of security...

We have never had a visit, however I am for some reason ! ! ! ! ! expecting one this time, however one of the photos, is my wife and I, and our four large alsations, we also have sign on  locked gate beware alsations, they can be very fearsome, and act like a pack !

Interestingly the map we attach to the marriage extension,  is a copy of the one that was rejected nine years ago, keep using same map just to prove the point, that time my wife hand drew a map for them, that was accepted

A Thai would reach across the desk and slap their face for a comment like that.

They know how to treat servants.

Some can be quite patient with you but others very rude...I remember one rejecting my embassy income letter for no apparent reason in Jomtien to switch from a tourist to a non O. I think it was because I didn't get the little certified sticker from MOF in Bangkok or something.  She didn't state this though, when I was in MOFA the translater said it didn't need to be certified because it was from my embassy

Ive since been told I wouldn't have needed the 'little sticker' on it to get the marriage extension but only the switch to non O and that Jomtien is renowned for being difficult and making up rules.  I'd rather do runs every 3 months to avoid all that, I hope that option stays hassle free

We are well known in the office, big old man, dying of cancers,  very cute, loving and helping wife, we turned up as always exceedingly well dressed both in Thai silk, with plenty of heavy gold on show. We are told dress well be respectful !! We often see them them all at one, restaurant, and I always buy them liberal supplies of whisky

The top female was also new, sorry not new in the young way of talking, quite long in the tooth but new to the position, unlike one a few years ago I did not see her new Black Mercedes parked outside, (she had probably hidden it from view)

The  examining officer was new to us a female Major General so her photo said,(How she got to that rank is not for me to question) probably we  made her jealous, not our intention, and she was looking for the non obligatory greasing of the wheels, that does not happen with us

Maybe we got what we deserved,  but at the end of the day not so bad, mission was accomplished, and they are correct we have the option to leave at any time, as my friend Donald Trump tells the evil four congress ladies, so Thailand much the same as UK and USA so we should not judge Thailand badly

Yes you probably made her jealous...especially if she was new, not all people are the same....you never know what they are thinking and can get bit.

I was foolish and went to a different officers desk before trying to save time but should have known she was not nice because I had seen daggers in her eyes before..my wife tried to warn me and she was vey rude to me but most goes over my shoulder these days

At Buriram Immigration yesterday I had a slight problem. To cut it short my missus was passed a piece of paper with 15,000 Baht on it. The officer said this is the price for us to overlook the seasoning period. I said no as I don't mind going back in 2 months once my money has seasoned.

They deliberately push people into a corner in the hope that they'll jump. I didn't, and saved myself 15,000 Baht.

for marriage extension ?

Precisely why I renew my visa overseas - one year (can even be extended to add 90 days) multi-entry. I haven't experienced any scamming or extortion since opting for this method from 2009 onward. I also don't have to do the 90 day reporting.

My first experience with local immigration for about 10 years was this week when trying to get a letter for driving license renewal. And sure enough they wanted 600 baht for it when there is supposed to be no charge. They all seem to operate their own little fiefdoms.

They asked me for 500 baht and I refused, still got it by asking to see the head.

Costs me around 40,000bht each year, but that does include 4 boozy womanizing holidays in Vietnam and Cambodia and I don't need to keep any money in Thai banks.

What's wrong with Thai banks?

I was getting a 60 extension cuz my 400,000 hadn't matured in the bank and I'd forgot my KR2 (marriage papers). The 15,000 he wanted was to ignore the 60 day extension and give me my 12 month retirement extension instead on that day.

I think maybe the authorities are just amazed that you could stay married to the same Thai woman for 10 straight extension periods.

More likely that the beautiful, loyal, young Thai woman has stayed with that ancient old fart for 10 years.

Siht interest rates when you can get 6% in a 'Credit Union'. Unfortunately IO do not recognize CU's as being banks so it take a little balancing act with my monies each year.
