HELP- WiFi, WiFi Direct and other connections to a Digital Camera.

Featured Replies

I am not the best when it comes to networks and the various methods of connecting thing using WiFi, so tell me if I am missing the point, or just plain wrong in what I am thinking here. Firstly my current set up is as follows - My PC is Asus based, I believe it has NO NFC capability (Maximus Code IX) so what I am trying to do is set up a wifi link to a camera.

I have a Canon 80D that supports WiFi and NFC this is the camera I want to connect - I am trying to connect it without using any third party software like EOS utility etc.

My PC runs on a wired GB Network to my Asus router (which has WiFi enabled) all of the ethernet cables connect via a Zyxell 16 way switch.

The router has two WiFi connections running, 2.4GHz and 5GHz. no issue with this. It is all working OK.

As I only use ethernet on my PC to connect to the router and given that I have a dual band (2.4 and 5GHz) Wifi built into the motherboard that is switched off and never needed. I was wondering if it was possible to set that connection up totally separate from the current WAN/LAN that would make a simple direct Wifi connection to my Cano 80D.

Sort of stand alone where the camera and the on board wifi communicate directly and independently. Any guidance is appreciated. (Basically I do not want to interrupt or disturb the current internet and LAN settings on my router, or its WIFI. I would just like to setup a dedicated wifi connection totally independently from the current connection between the 80D and the unused WiFi card on the PC)

Thanks.

Can tell you  along story, but I think the link below is more clear and learned it also this way.

It cannot be too difficult as even I manage to get connection between my D7200 and my ASUS laptop without too many problems.

Just google: 'how to transfer images from canon 80d to laptop'

Have fun....

Why not go and enjoy yourself and do things you really enjoy instead of spending your valuable time posting here? If that was the best I could do I would have gone and took a dump and read a paper! Cheers for your help, much appreciate! If I had found the answer on Google I would not be posting here. I have all of the manuals for my cameras and not one explains it...they seem too caught up with <deleted> Smartphones! not PC's - I already have a laptop connection. RE READ THE POST DEDICATED UNIQUE CONNECTION TO THE WIFI ON THE PC! <deleted>! Why do you even bother?

Why try and reinvent the wheel? The EOS utility does the job. I would just install it and use it.

Networks were a large part of my job and even I would hesitate to use the PC's wifi card to create another network just for a camera, as you want to do. It's a messy solution at best.

I often ask myself that.
