JAKARTA (Reuters) - A powerful earthquake struck off the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java on Friday, triggering a two-hour tsunami warning that sent coastal-dwellers fleeing to higher ground and panicking people in the capital Jakarta.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A white New York City police officer who killed an unarmed black man with a banned chokehold in 2014 should be fired, a police judge recommended on Friday in a case that stoked the Black Lives Matter movement and reverberated in the U.S. presidential campaign.

Khuan Khreng wildfire still smouldering as officials tackle smoke

The wildfire at Khuan Khreng peat forest in Nakhon Si Thammarat province was still smouldering in some parts on Friday, which required officials, soldiers and volunteers to continue spraying water and monitoring the situation round the clock, said Damras Phoprasit, director of the Protected Area Regional Office 5 (Nakhon Si Thammarat).

PHUKET: Foreigners applying for an extension stay under a Non-immigrant O-A visa, nicknamed the “retirement visa”, still do not yet have to provide proof of mandatory health insurance coverage as warned to be introduced “imminently” by senior officials in Bangkok months ago.

Army chief blames same group from attacks in 2006 for Friday’s explosions

Tropical storm Vibha causes heavy rain in Thailand

PM won’t tolerate violence and vows no hiding place for the perpetrators

(Reuters) - Japanese shipping firm Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd <9107.T> (K-Line) was convicted of criminal cartel conduct and ordered to pay a A$34.5 million ($23.50 million) fine by a federal court, Australia's competition regulator said on Friday.
