i am staying for longtime in thailand and drive car since more than 7 years here.

in 7 years their was 4 minor accidents, and all was cleard and payed by thais after clearing by police, and only once it take a little time nad headeache in huahin, the rest was quickly cleard in pattaya to my favor.

yesterday was first time bad experience on a mini minor occasion.

drive in a small soi,,i drive and scratch a parking motorbike. the owner said i broke something on the backside of motorbike.( there was a minicrack on a backlight, but even not sure from my car),,so for make it easy i told this thaiguy 200 and thats it,,,,no! 300 no! he only mean peng mak,,, ok i was fed up and called insurance. at same time one ploiceman arrived.

a lot of blabla, insurance want to send one man out. the guy from insurance want talk to the policeman

the policeman denied any talk with insurance man

the insuranceguy told me ask him for his name , he denied to tell me his name,he said its written in thai on his uniform and why i am in thailand when icant read thai.

the guy from insurance told me ask him for olice id card, he denied.

the insurance said the man come in 15 mnute,, when i cut the telephone,,the policearshole, take his GUN outside, and show in the air, and mean he not mafia he big police he major he thai and farnag can f....... off and so on.

i keep cool and told him he have lovely gun and blablabla,,,,,,,,,he mean i stay thailand have to go monkeyhourse ( jail) for 15 years and soon,, i said only want to go to policestation and not argue with him.

maybe 5 mninutes later ,, he cant win, and a lot of people around, he called the police from station,,

after this the clearing was done beetween this thai and me and only 500 ,,thats what i want to pay at the begining,no other charges

this policeman leave quickly the scene and maybe 2 minutes later 2 policeman arrive with a car.

the only what they said,, why they come and even 300 would be enough to pay.---

i dont know waht this wenker before try to press out of me,,,,,,,,,,,,,

waht i learned again.....

1. call insurance

2. even police come to scene, push forward to go to policesattion for clearence

3. the insurance told me the guy have on his helmet a number, pleae remember ,this is a personal identification number from police.

BUT I THINK WHEN THIS SCENE HAPPEN IN THE NIGHT AND HE PLAY AROUND WITH HIS GUN, AFTER DRINKING A BOTTLE OF WHISKY??????? ( this scene was in a bussy soi afternoon 3 p.m.)

normaly have to go to police to make a complained, about playing around with his gun,,,,, its illeagl, but sure make me more uncomfortable here in pattaya.

so the old bad guys are sometimes still there even it is not common.......

take care boys...................

Sounds like there was a scam of some sort going on here.....

Eyes open lads,

very srange story indeed, looks like a troll to me,but i could be wrong. If I am wrong big cance the policeman was one troll......or maybe a friend of this guy you hit, trying to scare you of and pay big bugs what they can share together. Also to point out to his superiors would be not too advisable,if he losses his job, your lifesafety could be on a loose thread!many strange things happen in Thailand, but what that policeman told you is rubbish,15 years.....Woh even the former Pm when convicted will not get a term like that, must be a scam.

Happy I not live in that place, never visited it and I never will, too much dangerous in every field..... :o

not a nice experience...but sometimes I guess it just pays off to pay the fine, bite your tongue, and walk away. If the OP (7 years in Thailand) could speak Thai language I think it would have been a lot easier a situation to deal with, well it would certainly have helped you out in this situation.

Sorry, I have to listen to pigeon english all day, I'm not going to take the time to read it as well....

Go with God.

Ah, but the birds do not talk. It's 'pidgin English'. :o

Pidgin: language with a greatly reduced vocabulary and a simplified grammar, often based on a western European language. Pidgins usually arise as methods of communication between groups that have no language in common; the pidgins in some instances later become established first or second languages of one of the groups involved. Some examples of pidgin are Chinese Pidgin English, Haitian French Creole, and Melanesian Pidgin English.

As for the OP, sounds like a scary story. Did you by any chance raise your voice or disrespect the policeman from the start?

Just so I am clear - the initial offer you made was 200B. The Thai guy said 300B. You said no. On the strength of 100B difference, you decided to get involved with insurance and police?

For 100B?

But then you end up going to the cop shop and paying 500B?

You have zero sympathy from me.

Yes, always call your insurance first.

And just for the record, a cracked light, even if it might seem like just a small crack to you, means light replacement in the policies of most insurance companies. Just like if you just make a little crack on someone's windshield. If you're in the wrong, it means a new windshield that you have to pay for (the insurance guy will often collect right on the spot and have all parties sign off).

Corruption rules in LOS and personally i like that . It smooths life's passage .

ultimately it destroys any semblance of honesty and integrity that may exist in society , but thats not what this thread is about.

for any falang driver here i believe it is important to have insurance at 1st class level and to call them asap after any accident. if your thai is not up to a high enough standard to discuss the finer points of the accident with an aggrieved thai or an angry policeman , then its better to say nothing at all , play the dummy and wait quietly and calmly until the insurance agent arrives and can speak on your behalf.

Oh, "raise your voice or disrespect the policeman" permits the latter to draw his weapon? Oh dear me, what are we saying here?

Could you please avoid drawing your own conclusions from what I said? I was asking a question of the OP, no need for you to get all worked up.

In several cases, the person who keeps his cool best wins the favour of the policeman. This is not 'good' or 'correct'. But it can be reality, and something one has to deal with.

A very sensible post here. (not that I am always sensible in my postings :o ). I agree over here. However, if it is something so minor like a bht 300 or bht 500 compensation, just pay up and let it go. after all, it is not like it's happening everyday and it adds up.

Easy to say...

Not so easy to do when your gut instict tells you that you are being had, & made an idiot of. Pride comes into play.

If you don't do anything, before you know it, UAFuc... in all aspects of life.

200B or 2,000,000B, get a straight back, stand up for yourself. Have some pride in who you are & what you do.

Soundman.

Worked up? Who me? or you, by your above response. I was merely responding to your earlier posting, querrying whether the op had in any way "raise your voice or disrespect the policeman", hence the policeman drew his weapon in a threatening manner to the op. Even had the op not kept his cool, no reasons the officer should drew his weapon over a minor traffic incident. :o

You misinterpreted my question, and you are still doing it, it seems.

I said the situation sounded scary, and asked what I asked to see if one had something to do with the other. In no way did I defend or excuse the police man's behaviour.

Now I have tried to explain to you as clearly as I can what I meant so you do not need to make your own conclusions anymore. :o

I admire your righteousness here. But in my opinion, for 200B I will just concede and let it go and advoid all the nasty scenario in a minor traffic incident. But b2,000,000 then I will definitely fight till the very end that my straight back can hold me. I do have pride, believe me, and many others in tv. But this thailand, we are foreigners, there is so much we can do and that's it.

As much as I sympathised with the op with what he has gone thru in that accident, my solemn advise is still pay up and be done with it. It is not B2,000,000.

Seagull, you are arguing about something that was neither said nor implied.

Really? Since you said that, then there must be something that I misread from meadish. If I do, apologise I extend, but i still stand my grounds on the policeman's behavior.

Put your toys back in your box and it's an early night for you, and no, i wont read you a story.

Ok, my toys are kept in the box and she is calling me to bed now. Goodnight.

Does absoloute first class insurance make much difference in the face of a trafic cop waving a gun?

That is not a rehorical question (spelling?) - i sincerely would like to know if having A grade insurance makes a difference. Is there a policy/company that specialises in dealing with ferang and con prevention?

If so, what is the protocol in shity events like this?

That also what I thought - 100B extra, pay it and move on. A mod corrected me that i read the OP the wrong way though?

Looking at it again, that is the case isnt it? For the sake of 100B he put himself through serious hassle for a long time when he could have been in the pub with his feet up, reading the paper.

In serious accidents, is there any benefit in having A Grade insurance, if such a thing exists for ferang?
