An interesting challenge for Toyota in Australia over botched DPF set up on Hiluxs, Fortuners etc.  Presented with just a little exaggeration by humble John:

Given thst these vehicles are made in Thailand, is there any problem with the local hiluxes/fortuners on the road here? Never seen much in the press in Thailand about it. Perhaps the Thai cars run hotter, or driven over longer distances, so the dpf's can more effectively burn off the soot.

Thailand fix is easy just cut the ‘ing thing out and replace it with a bit of pipe

That's common here on the mazda skyactiv diesels. Havent seen much of it on the toyotas though.

I wish it was easy on the Toyota's, If you know someone who is doing it please share.  The ECU in the Toyota is looking for this and if detects an anomaly like a missing DPF filter is puts you into limp mode. From the reports I have read from Australia from Toyotas who have reprogrammed the ECU to go without they are having problems and have to reset the ECU every two weeks because the ECU is adaptive and is compensating somehow.
