Its quite likely that what is really meant is that the flight originated in Singapore and the article therefore mistaken lends us to believe the lady in question is Singaporean.

Malays have often the same/similar names. They are Muslims and share some of the Arabic culture together with the religion.

    I'm sure it's insured. Just don't understand the need to impress those around me, I guess it comes from a feeling of inadequacy.

A lot to be said for fake costume jewellery.  Leave the real stuff in a safe. Definetely do not

take it all when you are travelling.  Stupidity cannot be cured.
