PHUKET: Top Phuket officials have pointed out that the province’s poor ability to respond to the Lady D superyacht fire this week has highlighted the need for the central government to support a B50-million water safety plan – which includes fire boats – that has already been submitted, but not yet approved.

Phuket Vice Governor Supoj Rotreuang Na Nongkhai, and Prapan Kanprasang, Chief of the Phuket provincial office of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM-Phuket) both called for the government to approve the B50mn plan at meeting held at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday afternoon (Aug 8 ) held to review details of the Lady D superyacht fire on Wednesday.

The Lady D caught fire Wednesday morning, with the blaze quickly growing out of control. The 55-metre superyacht was towed away from other boats moored at Ao Po Grand Marina for safety as it was carrying a large volume of fuel on board.

You mean all the super-rich folk who are going to arrive in droves on their super yachts might expect there is some sort of appropriate fire tender in the event of a mishap? Next they will expect professional, trained fire fighters. Oh and appropriately maintained infrastructure not to mention amenities.

millionaires are coming to Pattaya!

much safer. :clap2:

After sampling some of the delights of the 'family resort' they could end up with a different sort of 'fire in the hold'.

The moles-asses drones have finished damping down the pollution in BKK now so get them down there to spray up any more " Super yachts " that set fire to thereselves ..

Cancel the 2nd Submarine need a firefighting boat instead would be the sensible thing to do but TIT ......

I, my teen children and their friends were more that happy with our 19 1/2 ft

Evinrude 150 HP that towed them around lake Powell. Can't ski well off those 90 footers.

So it was a television plug, good detective work and now case closed and back to sleep lads

Well the super rich should, or the marinas should, pay for their own fire ship, not general taxes.  And I say this as a bot owner.

Where would one keep this fire boat? It would only be of use at the marine where it is moored, RPM/Boat Lagoon to Ao Po would be 30+ minutes and during that time the average fibreglass gin palace would mostly be dust.  Lady D is steel, hence still floating.
