Yes but the UK govt should have made it clear that the building was to be retained. Once they got their money they did a runner !

Everything "British" has been sold down the river. Indicative of a once great nation now turned to rubble.

In Chiang Mai the former British Consulate building was retained in the design of a modern hotel (now called Anantara)

Perhaps the Bangkok residence was too big or poorly sited to be fit for a new use.

The Bangkok residence was too valuable for any other use than destruction and redevelopment into a shopping mall extension and more unaffordable condominiums.

The British embassy never did f... All for any of us. Soon the British "representatives" will be caged in a high rise office instead of the pleasant environment of Gardens at the Old British embassy.

Money talks.... The land was sold as the most expensive in Thai history. 'nuff said.

What difference does the "pleasant garden environment" of the old Embassy make to anyone who doesn't live or work there, i.e. the public, compared to whatever the new one will look like, when the public never had access to it?

That's the way property deals with valuable property works everywhere.

'The Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) has decided to recall the Award for Outstanding Conservation of Architectural Arts from the British Embassy in Bangkok for the demolition of the former embassy building.'

Hmm. So, having presented the award for the demolition of the building, they now want it back. Or did I misunderstand the text of the sentence?

After thirty years? Morons.

Yes, you misunderstood it.  Badly.

They didn't ask for it back during the 30 years that the building wasn't being demolished.  Not that hard to grasp is it?
