Work Permit With Wife As Employer

Featured Replies

Sunbelt - hopefully you can answer this one please.

I have just been reading another post about a wife employing her husband so that he may obtain a work permit, and therefore stay here on a one-year visa. Well, this has started me thinking. Let me explain my current situation:

I am currently employed by the local Non-Formal Education Department as a volunteer. The contract of employment enables me to get a one-year visa and thus a work permit which allows me to stay here.

However, my 'wife' has a registered tutoring school which she opened at home, and the income from the school is 700,000+ baht per year. My question is: Can she employ me in whatever position seems possible in the school [at the moment I am the sole teacher in the school [unofficially ]]? From reading the other post, it would seem that she would have to employ two Thais [that is not impossible]; or, the income from the 'company' must be over 350,000 baht per year? As this is not a registered company, it is a registered tutoring school, does the second option apply? Also, we are not married, but have been living together for over three years. Marrying is not out of the question, we have just never got around to it!

Whilst I am quite happy doing the voluntary work at the NFE Department, it would be so much better if she could employ me and then I could get a work permit that way.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes as long as this is your position and job description in your work permit.

From reading the other post, it would seem that she would have to employ two Thais [that is not impossible];

She doesn't have to hire two Thai employees. However this is one of the options if you are married to a Thai national. If you are not married, then this option is four Thai employees.

or, the income from the 'company' must be over 350,000 baht per year?

Yes as long as your "employer" is the owner
