Immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang announced the arrest of what the media said was a big player in human trafficking in the south of Thailand.

Forty two year old U-chop or Bao was apprehended when he came ashore from a boat that he had been hiding on off the coast of Ranong.

Bao fled to sea after a warrant was issued for his arrest and only returned to port when necessary.

Immigration discovered that he would put to shore on August 24th and were waiting for him.

They say that he has been involved in the trafficking of around 100 people from Myanmar via Thailand to Malaysia to work.

INN said he was a big player in the gang that arranged matters with agents in Myanmar to transport people via ship at night.

He has been charged with human trafficking that falls under the terms of modern day slavery.
