August 29, 20196 yr Hello everyone, I'm an expat living in Southeast Asia and my partner is from a Southeast Asian country. We have tried to seek help to determine if we have a fertility issue but so far we have visited two different IVF clinics, not knowing where else to go. However, it seems to us that the IVF clinics are more interested in persuading us to undergo IVF or similar treatment than helping us to determine if we have a fertility problem and if so, what it is. I am wondering what is the best first medical provider to contact regarding this type of problem. In some websites online, it seems to indicate that a GP would be the first person to discuss this with, or perhaps a Reproductive endocrinologist or urologist. As mentioned, basically we are interested in a doctor that could help us assess whether we have a fertility problem and what it is- we are not interested in a clinic that wants to skip immediately to IVF treatment. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to see or where to go in Bangkok? (we are looking here because we don't have confidence in the treatment/diagnosis we would get in the other country where we live). Thanks in advance for your help.
August 29, 20196 yr Go to a hospital, get tested then talk with the doctor about options. I suggest one of the larger hospitals like Samitivej, Bangkok Hospital and BNH (expect to pay a premium though). Others might have more information.
August 29, 20196 yr In Thailand a GP will be useless and just refer you to an infertility specialist. Best to see an infertility specialist but at a general hospital not IVF clinic. Suggest one of these: 1. If you can afford Bumrungrad Hospital - https://www.bumrungrad.com/doctors/Nahathai-Paktinun young, bright, US trained 2. Otherwise try Dr. Chartree at Bangkok Christina Hospital. https://www.bch.in.th/find-doctor/doctor-profile/?smid=14538
August 29, 20196 yr Author Thank you NightSky and Sheryl! Appreciate your advice. When you mention about Bumrungrad and affordability, how much are we talking about here? I don't have a clear sense of how much it would cost to go there...

I don't have a clear sense of how much it would cost to go there... Consultation, about 2000 baht. tests - it will depend on what is required. Wild guess, maybe 10-20K baht but I could be wrong. If you are in Cambodia, as I am guessing from your nic, there is a US trained Thai Ob-Gyn at Royal Phnom Penh Hospital. You might consider consulting him first. http://royalphnompenhhospital.com/doctor/dr-damrong-pattanumotana/
August 29, 20196 yr Author Hi Sheryl, Thanks again, I'm just guessing but I would think that Royal Phnom Penh Hospital would be even more expensive than Bumrungrad. Maybe we should try Bangkok Christina? Does Dr. Chartree speak English well?
August 29, 20196 yr Dr. Chartree speaks English well.Costs at Royal Phnom Penh are slightly less than Bumrungrad in most cases. And of course you save on travel costs. I am not sure they can do all the needed tests though but only way to find out would be to see the doctor.Sent from my SM-J701F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
