Probably staying in some beautiful 5* hotel in Amalfi, all on the taxpayer's dime

Suggest this one not far from Amalfi. Stayed a couple of weekends. Only 400 quid a night.

He should visit party places to see people out at 4pm. Suggestions : Ibiza, Cancun, Rio, Mykonos, Tel Aviv, Las Vegas, Amsterdam (can also check other than time closure), Berlin, ....

But why Italy... Nothing particular there... Or would it be fashion in Milano hidden in a time closure prospection trip 555

Wow, barely warming up his seat and already planning all-expenses-paid overseas holiday business trips.

Snide remarks aside Mr. Minister, how about focusing on the real reasons for the decline in tourism, instead of just harping on one small aspect of it i.e. extended closing hours for bars/pubs? I dare bet, even if you kept them open 24/7, the growth in tourism as a direct consequence would be infinitesimal.

In Chiang Mai it would be nice to be able to listen to a band and have a beer after midnight. Most venues are closed at midnight except for the ones where your bar bill gets automatically inflated without your knowledge and a quick visit to the hospital in provided should you elect not to pay.

By doing his duty in other countries and studying the habits he is actually working without work permit. Then he should get arrested and being in detentiong till his deportation.

Is there anything on this forum people don't criticise. This gentleman is a breath of fresh air he is actually going to learn from other successful counties. Would be good if immigration, commerce, agriculture and a host of other ministers would do the same.

OK let's see what happens.....

RE - Yutthasak said operators in Khon Kaen did not want to extend the closing hours beyond 2 am, saying there are no foreign tourists left at 2 am.

*  Not that strange taken into consideration that guests in general leave the premises prior to or latest at closing time so if you close at 2am then we might assume guests has other things to do rather than hanging outside a closed bar for another 2 hours ...

Be nice to have classy customers as well instead of aweaty older expats with their evening 'take-aways' either screeching or sitting there looking like someones stolen the jam out of their doughnut.

At least he is going to study the pros and cons. He is definitely the best Minister of Tourism for a long time. Pity he isn't in charge of the TM30 disaster!

Hope he learns from Italy as wine producing country imposes no tax on imported and local wine.

i hope he gets charged 'aliens' inflated double prices everywhere he goes and god forbid he should need hospital treatment!!!  No doubt he will also be required to attend and report in to the local immigration office at every city he visits too so they can keep track of his movements - pesky foreigner. :):):)

I dont think this guy looks up to the task of partying.

Ever heard of phones, emails, messages, skype, etc?

Just close all bars all the time, ban drinking along with everything else and roll those crowd dispersing vehicles on the street to clean up the last of the curious questioners....

With just seeing farangs now pay double plus for hospital visits by law, tm30, dual pricing, less coin operated kids machines for toys because its like gambling, no short skirts, no clean beaches, no safety, no ganja for anyone apart from a drug dealing corrupt government, etc, etc..i dont think you need to worry about empty pubs closing times.

Further questions:

- How many staff will accompany him?

- Wil his family accompany him at taxpayers expense?

His wife is the the filthy rich MP Natee Ratchakitprakarn who received a one month suspended jail sentence for not correctly declaring her assets to the NACC.

She is Thailand's richest MP with 4.675 billion baht in assets. So greed and being an MP will mean that she automatically qualifies for a free trip.

Actually he will probably feel right at home. Italy sold out to Chinese big time.

Italy joins Belt and Road

Chinese in Prato

Many Chinese clothing factories , especially Prato, of course they get the "Made in Italy" label. There are many articles, of course, saying that the Chinese want to join the exclusive ranks of high class fashion. However friends in the industry seem to mostly come across cheaper, lower quality items. For example , they say, noticeable in "Italian cashmere" where the Chinese are making a cheaper alternative from scratch (including fabric and wool etc). Then selling it as "Italian cashmere" for a price that undercuts the real product which is again made in Italy. The untrained eye would before read the label, but now unless they know their fabrics they will not be able to tell the difference.

I wonder if this guy could talk some sense into Immigration to scrap the TM 30.

Dear Sir, Italy & Holland have tourists that are completely different to here.

Have a look at home first before jaunting off on a holiday.

Get Chiang Mai & Hua Hin Police to allow bars to remain open until 2 am

Too often they are made to close at midnight !!

What good is opening bars until 4 am if there are no tourists to spend their money .  Tourists do not vacation or come to a foreign country simply because they can drink an extra few hours.

I would suggest the Minister  might conduct some analysis and form a panel of long staying expats to discuss what  they would suggest to improve Thailand as a tourist and long stay location.

The aimple fact is that Thailand has shunned the Western tourist who came and spent and parties and then came back year after year in favor of the Chinese and Indians who have no interest in  drinking at 3 AM.  Now, all of a suddent, they want the Westerners back.

It's going to take a lot more than  4 am bar openings to get the  party going again!

Lot of variables involved with this decision, maybe a "cost benefit analysis" is in order.

What will the COST be in additional police, hospital, and first responder services, and property damage, to assist drunken tourists involved traffic accidents, lady-boy thefts, bar fights with security guards, and the related bad press in the foreign media, etc., etc. compared to the BENEFIT of additional incomes received by hotels, transportation, and businesses in the areas? Who Pays the Difference?

I think he misunderstands the role of Tourism and Sports Minister; it's not about becomming a tourist yourself.

He should be going to where currency is strong ... Because he will see no tourists
