The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DPMD) called on its provincial offices in 18 provinces on Tuesday to prepare manpower and equipment to tackle possible flash floods, forest runoffs and landslides due to heavy rainfall from the influence of tropical storm Kajiki, which was as of this morning centered in Hue, Vietnam, and moving slowly south-southwest.

DPMD chief Chayaphol Thitisak said the storm would bring thundershowers with heavy downpours in some areas in 55 provinces during the week, but 18 of them – Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phichit, Tak, Phetchabun, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Loei, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Ranong and Phang Nga – were deemed particularly at risk of flash floods, forest runoffs and landslides.

Meanwhile, 12 northern and northeastern provinces – Phrae, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Nan, Phetchabun, Udon Thani, Sakhon Nakhon, Kalasin, Roi Et, Yasothon and Ubon Ratchathani – were under watch for overflowing rivers, besides flash floods.

The four eastern provinces of Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, as well as six southern provinces of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun were also under watch and warned about strong winds/waves. Small boats have been prohibited from sailing during the next 1-2 days.

Majority of the landslides are large runoffs is caused by locals raping the vegetation to grow more corn. Reap what you sow.

Here in Wang Plong we just had the worst flood in 45 years so says the M-in-L.  Taken me 3 days to clean the shed and workshop....don't need  more rain!
