South Korean fraudster on the run for 10 years found in Thailand

A South Korean man who ripped off his country folk ten years ago was found to be staying at a Bangkok condo. 

 

Sung Jin, 61, was wanted on a Red Notice and had been a fugitive for ten years but was found by Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang and his immigration men.

 

He had travelled to Russia, China, Mongolia, Cambodia, Burma, Laos, Vietnam and many other countries, said Naew Na.

 

He was arrested at a condo in Soi Seri 9 in Suan Luang district of Bangkok last month. 

 

He had rented directly from a condo owner there. It appears that the condo owner was fined 1,600 baht for failing to report a foreigner's whereabouts under the 24 hour reporting laws.

 

Sung Jin ran a rally tour company in South Korea called Chikozaruen Mpartners and sought investment from his compatriots before fleeing with their money. He has admitted stealing about 144 million won or about five million baht from October 2009 to February 2010.

 

He entered Thailand on July 9th with permission to stay until October 6th.

 

He will now be deported to South Korea to face charges for fraud.

Not necessarily.

There must be some immigration police paid to scour TVF. It might just start to get through to them the futility of the TM 30, plus the resentment of it.

I was dead serious and not at all looking for a laugh. Judging by the article the TM30 did not sure in the capture.

 

Does that mean that all captures are unaided by TM30 reporting? No.

It's quite simple- the police run the names on the Interpol Red Notice against their database of people in Thailand.  They get a hit and start looking.  Normally, when one  enters Thailand- the IO runs the Interpol list against the foreign passport- seems like they mised this one but eventualy caught him.
