I'm not sure if this should be in the Thai Language section or the computer section but I'll try here first for an answer.

I have installed the Unikode for Thai keyboard program and have found it works fine on word docs but it does not work if I try to type into a google search or onto this forum. When I type onto these only ? show up.

Is this normal ? or do I need to change some settings to have it work properly.

It works fine on word docs.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service pack 2

Any help would be much appreciated

Not sure which browser you are using. If Firefox, try selecting "View" > "Character Encoding" on the top menu and change to Thai TIS-620 or Thai Windows-874 and see if that corrects it. IE has the same option.

I'm using IE - although I'm not sure which version. I made sure that the view-encoding-thai was selected but it still doesn't work. Thanks anyway tywais.

I have no trouble viewing Thai script on websites ,I just can't type in Thai directly on this forum or on a google search using Unikode software.

I can type in MS Word and can type emails in Outlook with no problems.

Can everyone else type Thai directly onto a google search and directly onto this forum using Unikode for Thai?

Any other ideas would be appreciated

Well, you could always try using the Kedmanee or Pattachote keyboard - they come free with XP. Typing with a mouse is bad for the wrists.

Perhaps you need to do copy and paste for entry into web forms. I notice from its main page that Unikode for Thai doesn't work properly with everything.

If you want your own keyboard layout, you can always knock your own up with MSKLC (Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator). The downside is that if you roll your own I think you won't get built-in checking that you have entered vowels and tones in the correct order. If you're careful you can do it by modifying the Kedmanee or Pattachote keyboard, swapping key definitions round, with immediate visual feedback. (You'll have to park codes in Notepad when swapping - a print out of the Thai Unicode codes will be helpful in case you mess up the swapping.)
