Thai caption: Old clip

Pathumwan police told INN that a clip posted on Facebook that showed a mass brawl between students and the police happened a long time ago.

It occurred on the Sky Walk between BTS stations in the central downtown area of Bangkok.

The clip - being widely shared as a new development on Thai social media - saw police armed with truncheons join in trying to bring a violent situation under control.

The force said it was an old clip and the educational establishments involved are closed for holidays now.

Millwall v West Ham

But how did I miss that? Thats at National Stadium correct?. Nice little bitch slapping riot, those boys hit like girls, no wonder they run in packs.

These Thai cops need to work on their crowd control skills. Give me a can of pepper spray and an ASP Baton and I could have done a better job. Step in, spin, Face spray, dip to shin or knee or overhand to shoulder, giggle at the scream and cry of agony, next, wade in, oh look another, face spray, etc. Usually the screams of pain for mommy sink in fast.

These are technical college students from Pathumwan Tech college and the nearby Uthen Tawai institute. They have had a rivalry for years involving mass fights, injuries and deaths around the Pathumwan/MBK area. Around 10 years ago, a bunch of them were fighting inside MBK with machetes and knives much to the horror of tourists.

Back in 03/04 I was once walking home on a friday night at 2am along Phayathai rd near the Petchaburi rd corner, when 3 guys sprinted across the road with around 20 guys in pursuit wielding knives, machetes and iron rods. They fled towards Yommorat direction. They were clearly tech students from these 2 institutes based on what they were all yelling. People forget that 20-30 years ago there were regular huge fights between hundreds of tech students outside RCA and the Ratchada clubs after closing time. It was not uncommon for these fights to spill out on Ratchada rd stopping all the traffic. It is all much more sedate now even with these idiotic incidents.

These are some of the more recent events around the MBK area;

It all arises from the mentality that our tech institute is better than yours which is installed by the leadership of all colleges Thailand. (It is actually much worse out in the outer suburbs - Minburi especially).

Obviously, losing your life for the greater glory of ones institute is the pinnacle of achievement that all of us should aspire towards.........!

The police batons at the ready but frightened to use them, watch towards the end of the clip, these youths show no respect for the police in the land of respect, being beaten to the ground with a baton = respect next time

I agree and suggest they watch Rowan Atkinson and his troop in "The Thin Blue Line" practicing crowd control in the office.

In the late 70s, I drove coaches part-time.  I have been a few times to the Wolves' ground; every time, there were gangs of Wolves supporters roaming outside the ground, attacking anybody with the wrong-coloured scarf.  There was a police escort from the coach park to the motorway; on 2 occasions, I had broken side windows, caused by flying bricks/pieces of concrete.

We are gentlemen?  I don't tar everybody with the same brush; I'm sure there were a lot of real supporters inside the ground.  Outside, just a bunch of morons.  The Wolves' ground was by far the worst away match for supporters.
