Scaffolding at a luxurious condominium construction site in Chon Buri’s Pattaya City collapsed on Tuesday morning, causing the death of one foreign migrant worker and three serious injuries.

The incident took place at 10am in Soi Pattaya-Na Klua 14/1 in Tambon na Klua, Bang Lamung district, prompting police and rescue workers to rush to the scene.

They found four Cambodian workers knocked to the ground at the eight-storey condominium construction site and rushed three workers – two men aged 18 and one woman, 19 – to Ban Lamung Hospital. The worst-wounded worker, identified only as Ton, 20, was sent to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, where he was pronounced dead.

Bang Lamung superintendent Pol Colonel Chakthip Parapanthakul, who led a team to inspect the scene, said that police initially suspected that the scaffolding, which protruded two metres from the building and on which the workers were standing, suddenly collapsed because it was overloaded with metal rods. The collapse sent the four workers plunging to the ground, resulting in the death and the serious injuries.

Chakthip affirmed that police would investigate the incident to determine the real cause of the collapse and would check if the migrant workers were working and staying legally, so aid could be provided and legal action taken accordingly.

Safety, meh.

I spotted 3 safety hats in the picture, admittedly one is a Policeman's crash helmet, but that in itself is unusual!

Scaffolding at a luxurious condominium

I can't quite grasp the relevance of "luxurious condominium".

What difference does it make if "luxurious"?

means when finished will cost big money for a condo...with all the trimmings... swim pool/s shops , fitness centre ETC....

The scaffoldings here are death traps. Stacked too high for the type that's supposed to be used only for a couple of stories, planks laid on top, often no safety pins and locking mechanisms are busted, etc. Safety, meh.

Here's an idea.

Construction workers age 18, 19 & 20 I can just imagine the quality of the work carried out.

No safety, no tools, no experience.. result is an accident waiting to happen!

Who gives a rats <deleted>???? Thats the underlying problem...

Really, no one is accountable, life is cheap, a few thousand baht handed over to the families of the deceased. Those in any positions of decision making power to make any impact on these issues are beyond reproach, their apathy overwhelming - they just don't care.

The lack of accountability and overwhelming level of apathy of those is positions who 'could' have a positive impact on Thailand is kneecapping this country - they still don't care.

For a country so lovable, it pains to imagine what could be done.

I'm quite aware of that, but thank you anyway. I am talking about W - T -F difference it makes whether the accident happened at a luxurious condominium construction site or at a site of any other kind of building.
