Chiang Mai: Vegan / Plant-based Places to Eat ... Your Favorites?

Featured Replies

I'm moving back to Chiang Mai next month, and also switching back to a more plant-based way of eating.  I had my favorite places for plant-based eating when I lived there but wonder what other people's opinions might be, and whether there are new places I'm not aware of.

Figured this topic would be of interest to a lot of people, so please contribute.

As for my favorites, since I lived near Maya Mall, I really liked a couple of food stalls in the Food Court at Maya Mall.  Namely, Im Jai Veg and Shan Tou Hao Chi Vegan restaurant; both very good and very inexpensive.  Nearby was Samata for Japanese Curry bowls.  If you like veggie-style burgers, Beast Burgers is terrific.  Just south of the Old City is Vegetarian Society; incredibly cheap but very good (warning: you have to wash your own dishes LOL).  Imm Aim Restaurant, good food but a little pricey and a little too trendy for my tastes.  J Station Vegetarian Restaurant, just north of the Old City:  super cheap and super good food, but I heard it might have closed recently.  Taste From Heaven (appropriately named and my favorite), over on the east side of the Old City on Ratchamanka Rd near the canal is incredible IMHO!  Also the night market on Huay Kaew Rd across from Chiang Mai University; tons of food stall with tasty cheap food, not necessarily vegan, but still really good.  Those were my fave spots to eat.

The all-you-can-eat salad bar at Sizzler's is hard to beat in terms of value if you crave for more Western offerings. Only 139 B including soup, dessert and fruits. Special price effective Mondays and Fridays only.

Just don't order water. I ordered a cold bottle of water (no ice) and was surprised upon getting the bill that it was 30 baht.

I'm wary about purchasing certain cooked foods from market stalls.

Good idea - always seems to be sugar and msg...

Op - seems you know the topic quite well... I am going to a veggie rest w/a friend near CM Gate... she likes it. Not sure how healthy it will be...

But, what i am finding is that many of the better restaurants have a few vegan offerings...

I think you miss out many especially Pun Pun.

No offense but i think Imm Aim food sucks and is expensive, don't know why people still go there.

Here's a list.

Thanks for your list; I never saw that posting before.  I appreciate it and I'll be checking some of them out!  I guess I sort of agree with you about Imm Aim.  It was the restaurant I had my first dinner at when I arrived in Chiang Mai, so I guess I just like it for sentimental reasons but yeah, they are pretty pricey and I've had much better food at other places.

BTW, I am not a strict Vegan, and the links on the Culturetrip site to other non-vegan places to eat sound pretty interesting as well!

So, my special thanks ????
