PM Johnson to reveal his final Brexit plan as early as Tuesday - Telegraph

(Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will reveal his final Brexit plan to European Union leaders as early as Tuesday, the Telegraph reported https://bit.ly/2o0UEtW on Monday.

 

The plan is expected to be based on the creation of an all-Ireland "economic zone" which would allow agricultural and food products to move between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland without checks at the border, the report said.

Well that might well be his last chance to avoid a ' no deal ' Brexit , up to the EU to agree to this ( and the british parliament of course ...) I doubt that he will be able to keep his promise to get Britain out of the EU by the end of this month .

But , if he manages a ' no deal ' Brexit , people will say that everything that happens after is his fault ...

So northern Ireland will be staying in the single market?

They will never let you out without taking a pound of your flesh. Just in case any other countries are getting any ideas.

I wouldn't have thought so, leaked information says the plan includes two border check points, one away from the border in NI and one away from the border in S Ireland, I would be very surprised if the EU would be agreeable to this idea, infact I'd bet my favourite JC Juncker effigy on it.

Maybe Boris should just suggest that North Ireland should be united with Ireland. Then this is no UK problem anymore and they can leave and live happily ever after. A win win win for everybody.

Boris has only been PM for 2 months, so I guess relatively speaking it is "as early as"

Wasn't he foreign secretary not too long ago. Which great ideas did he contribute at that time?

I reckon a deal will be struck to save face all round. A win-win situation. The fact that even a no-deal would still entail the EU and the UK reaching an agreement on all the unresolved issues going forward, is not newsworthy enough. To announce a deal would make headlines, and it would be extremely difficult for the tory rebels and the DUP to oppose it, without getting reassurances that this is only the first step. 

 

Whether it would pass parliament is another issue.

That's only one scenario out of a few submitted to the EU - and it has already been dismissed as being unacceptable by Ireland let alone the EU. 

Will there be a time limit, (dare I say backstop), on this arrangement?

The great double act of May and Robbins were the only two people privileged to make decisions on a deal, any others may have come up with ideas beneficial to the UK and not the EU, so were intentionally ignored.

No, that’s not going to happen, the EU is not only about trade, it’s a Globalistic socialist entity with an undemocratic core. A remainers wet dream for sure.

So the answer to not having a hard border between Ireland and NI is to have two hard borders along with some DMZ/Twilight Zone between them where, I assume EU law applies.

 

Actually not a bad idea from a NI political point of view since  those border provinces are virtually all Sinn Fein so they will be able to act  as if it is now part of Ireland and it gives the DUP a stronger hand as it will make what is left of NI more predominantly Unionist and delay the looming demographic  issue they have. Maybe in a few years at this rate they will be down to just one or two counties.

The EU has borders with Belarus, The Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey and Albania. Nobody is ever, ever, going to convince me that the Irish border, compared to all these others, is so problematic. It has been exploited purely for political reasons, to make Brexit as difficult, and irreversible, as is possible.

As an example (the others are all pretty similar) the Turkey - Bulgaria border is just over half the size of the Irish border and it has three border crossing points. The Irish border has somewhere around 270 roads crossing it at present which is far more than the examples you suggested put together.

If think the good people of N and S Ireland will just go round to the nearest border post if these roads are blocked off you need to read up on the history of the area.

Goal achieved for the EU . Divorce without agreement, the activity that migrates there and all future problems credited to Johnson & co.

Er, only the EU don't want that! They want an agreement but one they dictated. Especially the 39 billion GBP, ties on many things, like fishing ground entries, and to dictate all future negotiations. That way, they can demonstrate to other member nations the reality of trying to leave "on friendly terms".

 

The EU have no choice. Agree a Win/Win deal and then others will want the same or similar. 

 

But don't worry little Europeans. The new ruling political class, who are above the law, and most certainly not accountable to the electorate, will implement their socialist federal state of Europe, regardless of whether most people want it or not. A totally bureaucratic riddles state in which exploiting loopholes becomes the new currency of power. 

 

A Federal State of Europe - almost as if Orwell could predict this when he wrote animal farm!

Not sure how much say the DUP have now.

Since he booted out all those rebels he has nowhere near a majority even with them so the political decision is if a deal can be reached and agreed by parliament even it means selling the DUP down the road he would probably take it. The original May deal, before they renegotiated it to keep all the UK inside single market rather than just NI could have support in parliament now if it is the only deal on the table and the EU have already agreed to it.

Boris promised his "Plan B" (supposedly with help from such geniuses as Mogg, Gove and Farage) years ago.

 

Nowt has been provided. Zilch, not one inclination of a plan.

 

You reckon he's got something up his sleeve? Probably only an expensive watch!
