two hundred thousand Baht for a job

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

My Thai wife who lives in the UK has just informed me that her son has just been offered a job in the police or somewhere like the police and they want two hundred thousand Baht

.

After putting him through UNI in ubon about 4 years ago, he has only been able to find work in a Big C, so feel disappointed that he hasn't got a decent job and i know for a fact that he hasn't put much effort into looking and he did get a job at a parcel delivery place, but that lasted a week after feeling unwell and ended up back at Big C.

Well i have already said no way to the wife, But she is going to find out more information from her son, but two hundred thousand baht for a job and a job that he might keep for a week.

It will be interesting to know the monthly wage at this job.

anyone else experienced anything like this. I just smell a rat and i have a wife who wants whats best for her son. Looks like some heated debates

it doesn't work that way. Money always flows downhill in the land of the big monitor lizard The OP will pay-one way or the other.

200000 is cheap, going rate is 300000 to get into police force.

what is the salary ? Many will throw about different numbers. To my knowledge they start on minimum wage but get to share fines and whatever else. With each rank salary goes up and so do the perks.

captain is on about 25000 plus all the perks and “sharing”

major is on about 40000 and so on.

naturally being posted in “ good “ police stations  ie high earning has an additional cost

As with so many things in Thailand it varies, but BestB ^^^ above has pretty much nailed the general approach, I have heard of similar as described.

As an ex-denizen of Ubon I would say that every job is up for sale..

That includes working at the 7/11, the hardware store..the gov't (any branch) or teaching.

The lazy unmotivated son (they come with the patch) is also de rigeur.

200,000 seems cheap.

From experience, it seems like your son cannot be bothered to keep a job. Waste of money, IMO.

I worry that its £6000 UK pounds down the drain, So no guarantee of a return on the money , maybe take years to break even.
Couple of ways to look at it , I get the son to take out a loan for 100 thousand, to show his commitment and we pay the other half, The other thing is or take it out of his inheritance.

Will see what information comes back since we don't know the full facts yet.

Thank you for your replies

He is unlikely to get a loan with no job, unless you sanction it. Which is pointless. If he is due an inheritance, and both his mother and him know that, the more reason he has to avoid doing a day's work. Just wait for you to pop your clogs.

C'mon, all mothers take care their sons, especially in Thai culture.

Who cares about salary,

you get a gun and a uniform, what's all this talk about salary?

You don't, it (the money) comes from his pockets.

Does she pay an equal amount of the house and expenses, a proportion, or does she keep all her pay for herself?

Or..the OP's pockets..eventually.

I have seen this process too many times in reality to be able to express anything other than mild cynicism as to the outcome.

It's Isaan 101.

Starting salary for police is between 6 and 12 thousand baht per month.

They have to attend military training for a year.

I was told that 1 million is not unusual for p[laces like Pattaya were extra earnings can be very high.

Corruption at its worst .

A Police recruitment officer selling jobs .

Prayrut should order an investigation and find out where all the money goes too

Apparently this is very common in Thailand. Probably best to stay at Big C.

200,000bht to get in, 50k for his gun, another 10k for clothing, and hopefully he has a bike or transportation already.

Thailand's unofficial national anthem-sung to the tune of "Waltzing Matilda"

"Once a lazy Thai male camped by the local klong..

Under the shade of a mynah bird tree

And he sang as he slurped his Lao kao all day long

Who'll get a job for my brother and me....?"

He'll not make the grade in uniform, and his mum will find something else to get some dosh from the farang (a business that can't fail etc).

He should go into monkhood for a few years.
