A meeting by the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on Friday resolved to review and determine the fee rate of fixed-line telephone and mobile phone numbers as a single rate, secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said.

The fee rate for telephones was determined to be Bt1/number/month, while that for mobile phones Bt1.62/number/month.

“These rates were the highest average of each proposed options, which were considered at the meeting,” Takorn said.

In addition, there will be a transitional provision for enforcing the mobile phone fee rate of Bt1/number/month for two years from the date the provision comes into force, for mobile phone operators which hold no more than five million numbers.

“For new mobile phone numbers requested after that, the fee rate will be Bt1.62/number/month,” the secretary-general said.

The rate will be included in the (draft) announcement of the NBTC regarding the criteria of allocation and administration of telecommunications numbers together with the approval of the draft, before a public hearing is held.

I think what it means is that if you register the number before the date approved by the committee it will be cheaper.

Although, I'm not altogether in the light about; "In addition, there will be a transitional provision for enforcing the mobile phone fee rate of Bt1/number/month for two years from the date the provision comes into force, for mobile phone operators which hold no more than five million numbers."

After the transitional provision (that is two years) there will be extra charges incurred. Unless the operator has less that 5 million numbers.

Got it now, bluesofa?

Thanks, I'm glad you appear to have decoded the gobbledy-gook.

It could be a bit like 'friends & family' BT in the UK offered its customers years ago?

I assume that means telecos will have to offer us a number/selection of numbers we call regularly to register with them, for the cheap rate then?

Probably wrong but I am reading this as the fee the telecom companies will pay to the govt.?

Especially when they say -

Quote

Bt1/number/month

So for every number they register they pay 1 or 1.62baht per month........

It is beginning to get clearer. This topic is about telecom company rates to the the government.

Now I've got to apologize to the wife ((just trying to cut costs).

What was the lowest - median average and why wasn't that being considered at the meeting?

Any time folks like these get together, it usually means we will soon have to pay more.
