The usual suspects triggered to their usual response.

Peaceful protest is a right that should be defended in democracies.

Obstructing other citizens, deliberately, isn't a peaceful protest.

I absolutely do recall the poll tax demonstrations, those that lead the glorious moment of Thatcher being caught sneaking out the back door of No. 10, not those of the Wat Tyler Peasants’ Revolt she failed to learn from.

At the time I was a post graduate student at Edinburgh and had a front row seat to the idiocy of Thatcher trialing the poll tax on the Scottish.

The demonstrations against the poll tax are an example of the power of collective action.

Wat Tyler's revolt was against a King. Didn't work out well for him. Are you suggesting Maggie should've had the Sheriff of Edinburgh chop of their heads?

Do you actually think the folk who these protesters are aiming at care...I doubt it...

That's not their real aim. Sure, on any protest, there are people concerned with what's being protested about.

But there is also an element of left wing extremists being as disruptive as possible and acting as agent-provocateurs. Anything to attack the type of society they despise. They believe revolution is required to change society and then would impose their type of one party state controlled oppressive society where the rights to criticize, protest, or expound different political views are not tolerated.

I hope other countries follow the example and stop these lunatics.

If not, violence will occur on road blocks etc.

Patience of citizens can't be endless.

lets keep violence at home where it belongs.

I saw a movie like that where people were arrested for crimes they might commit in the future.

More countries should do this.

If only Thailand had this policy  and prevented you from posting the above opinion.

Starting to look a lot like 1984. Thought police arresting people for thinking about doing things. The world starting to coalesce into three large blocks that constantly drift between two being partners and fighting the third (Europe, USA and China. Governments collecting data on all its people. Perhaps its all conspiracy theories?

And your evidence of this claim of yours is where?

‘Citizen Smith’ was great humor but was never meant to form the basis of political views on later life.

Well not for the rational amongst us.

What "climate emergency"?

How far has the sea risen where you live- here, sod all.

Ecological emergency- yes. Humans are destroying the environment at an astonishing pace, but that's nothing to do with climate.

Why don't they go to Indonesia or Brazil and protest the destruction of the rainforests. Disrupting life in London isn't going to achieve anything except annoy those caught up in the chaos.

The UK has a long history of tolerating cranks who wander the streets proclaiming "The End is Nigh" and urging everyone to admit their sins and repent.

Like all deluded activists, these climate nitwits insist that this time -- not like the others -- it really is the end of the world. All the other fanatics were faking it, apparently.

Of course, making a public pest of yourself on the streets is one way to fill in an otherwise empty life; all the working Londoners are doing what they always do -- getting on with their lives.

Actually, I think it's more likely that people who believe nonsense like this must spend most of their time living in a cave. That the best explanation there is for how massively unacquainted they are with the huge progress being made in solar energy, wind energy, and storage.

Nonsense! They were not arrested for 'thinking' about doing things. They were 'planning', 'plotting' or 'conspiring' to commit crimes and thus were arrested as would be the case with any criminals planning a crime be it a bank robbery or an act of terror.

You are right. This is what is so objectionable about the Thunberg gang. They refuse to acknowledge all the work and planning that has been done, is being done regards to environmental issues. Instead they, particularly her, lashes out with insults and emotional violence inciting deluded people into acts of anti social disruption..before they go home to a Mc.Donalds.

Wind energy? You mean those big things that kill birds?

They certainly kill lots of birds. How many dead birds does it take to charge a teenager's phone?

Couldn't agree more...

And they can post pictures on FB & Instagram, talk about 'saving mankind' & get to wear a T shirt, with a slightly dangerous looking logo.

All looks a lot like Greenham Common on Steroids & the CND malarkey. Except many of 'em don't appear to be the great unwashed, but rather healthy middle class lefties..

Spellin'....

To add:

I think the extent to which these people are protesting, is completely unacceptable, because they are a huge, unnecessary drain on the Police.

Cressida Dick said that it takes the Police away from violent crime:

Everyday it seems, another young person dies from being stabbed.

Actually the hugest unnecessary drain on the police came from the Tories who slashed their ranks.

Lefists are inherently violent people. So kudos to the authorities for putting these criminals in the slammer before they hurt law-abiding citizens.

Be that as it may, it still doesn't make the xr actions responsible.
