Thailand approves bigger 2020 budget, debates start next week

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's cabinet on Monday approved a slightly higher budget of 3.2 trillion baht ($105.12 billion) for the 2020 fiscal year to bolster Southeast Asia's second-largest economy, which is growing at its weakest pace in nearly five years.

Cabinet okays hiring of new teachers, merging small schools

THAI defends food service after passenger complains on Facebook

BOT gets top marks from IMF, World Bank for supervision of commercial banks

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) have said they are happy with the Bank of Thailand (BOT)’s supervision of commercial banks, though they are urging it to strengthen the overseeing of state-owned banks and savings cooperatives.

Ad hoc panel to look into judge’s suicide attempt, report expected in 15 days

Sarawut Benjakul, deputy secretary-general of the Office of the Judiciary, said on Monday (October 7) that the judiciary has decided to establish an ad hoc subcommittee to investigate the case of a Pattani judge shooting himself in the courtroom on October 4. Panel bans three controversial herbicides effective December 1

Driving license point deduction system to be introduced in mid-December

A point deduction system, designed to improve the discipline of drivers, is tentatively scheduled to be introduced for motorists and motorcyclists in mid-December. It is hoped that the system will help to reduce road fatalities and injuries each year by 2,000-4,000.
