cocopops
Felt like somebody grabbed my office chair and gave it a quick shake here (Nong Jom, Sansai - quite close to Rimping supermarket).

Exactly the same here - I thought my daughter had run behind me and banged into the back of my chair (San Phi Suea, quite close to Rimping). phukettrader
Felt a large jolt that went throughout my whole body. Doi Saket. Only lasted a second but still quite scary.
silverhawk_usa
Epicenter about 12km from my house in Doi Saket. Felt, and sounded, more like a bomb going off and rattled the whole house. I went outside to see what happened. It didn't feel like the earthquakes I had experienced before. Very strange.

Maybe because the epicentre was quite close to the surface.

canthai55
Then they were walking along the stream together and he said, "Maria, I love thee and thou art so lovely and so wonderful and so beautiful and it does such things to me to be with thee that I feel as though I wanted to die when I am loving thee." "Oh," she said. "I die each time. Do you not die?" "No. Almost. But did thee feel the earth move?" "Yes. As I died. Put thy arm around me, please." — For Whom the Bell Tolls
canthai55
For Whom the Bell Tolls by John Donne No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thine own Or of thine friend's were. Each man's death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee.

That is what I recall from the Bay Area Quake. I would say that could describe it, but not repeatedly. A friend said it felt to him like a big truck smashing into his building. Hypocentre is calculated at 6km deep but it would not matter too much for the perception of it. However, distance to epicentre can change the perception of the earthquake. P & S and more importantly surface waves arrive more or less simultaneously so it feel to be more sudden. The further you are from the epicentre, the lower the pitch is going to be as well as higher frequencies get absorbed. Then there are strictly local variations that can make an earthquake felt differently only a hundred meter apart.
