NIDA Poll: Thais are worried that the ongoing political conflict will hurt the economy

 

 

 

Despite the general election, Thais think that the political division still persists and it can threaten overall economic performance and their income, according to latest survey carried out by the National Institute of Development Administration, or NIDA Poll.

 

The survey results showed that a majority of 44.85 percent of them thought that the political tension had escalated after the election in March, 36.71 percent viewed the situation remained status quo, while 14.53 percent said the domestic political tension was eased somewhat.

 

Asked about the outlook, Thais are not quite optimistic either. The survey showed that a majority of 35.44 percent of respondents believed the political sentiment would be grimmer, while 31.36 percent said the situation would be unchanged. Meanwhile, 23.94 percent believed the domestic political situation would be improved, and 7.18 percent said the political conflicts would disappear. The other 2.08 percent said they were not interested in politics and had no comment.

Thais need to understand this is what happens in democracies when various elected government members and parties disagree on issues.

But if they are worried perhaps they could have more peace of mind by returning to a one party junta rule? 

But that's what they effectively have now. I wish they would make up their minds what they want.

No fair election, total  blame  lies with the feelthy Junta, Thanathorn would  most  likely  be in power  now without their stupid evil meddling. That said not sure the Thais actually  want the real facts  about their "beloved"  country.

Thailand has a military government who do not care what opinions the ordinary Thai has; the elite have given themselves unlimited powers that render them untouchable.

But care little about the Road carnage and air quality....all about the EGO

It is not really true to say that the present regime do not care what the people think. That is not true. When there is public unrest with a government, in a democracy this is resolved by going to the polls, and in a totalitarian regime it is resolved by revolt in the streets.

On a daily basis that's probably of more concern than what the elite are doing to the country as a (w)hole

Thais are just more practical than most foreigners. They care about the bottom line not so much who is in power. As long as the economy is good they don't really care (except a few who are not in power then). But right now the economy is not good so they complain. In the end it will be the economy that kills the junta nothings else.

It is true: people want bread and butter and the hope of some jam one day soon.

 

But they also want freedom, justice and security.

 

Right accross the entire plant in pretty much every country you can name, people are in revolt against their governments, against "the system". Why? And why now?

 

People are in revolt against inequalities and corruption and they see it everyday on the news and social media.

 

To put it in a word, people want to be respected. They want a government and a system they can respect.

General elections? When?
Too curious, you talk about general elections when most of the seats in parliament and the senate were occupied by soldiers, never elected!
The economy has been sick for many years, the present government is still making it worse!
When the balance of spending hangs in favor of the army it is always bad for a country's economy!

They just figured this out? Lol

What Thais should be worried about is the stunning level of incompetence, at nearly every ministerial level of the government. And especially with the PM.

Difficult to revolt against a military Government that spends a good chunk on armaments to curb unrest among its people.
