Popular Post BritTim
If you are at the airport where the passport was lost, go to the airport police, and report the loss. The police will give you a copy of your report. If no longer at the airport, file the passport loss report at the nearest police station. Assuming you wish to return to the UK nearly immediately, contact the British Embassy in Bangkok to arrange an emergency passport. If there is time, you can apply for a replacement regular passport. See https://www.gov.uk/world/organisations/british-embassy-bangkok for further details. 1
ukrules
They might have the passport at the airport, if found it won't be thrown away. Go to the airport and speak to the tourist police first. Depending on where you're from you can get a new passport either very quickly from the embassy or for some places it can take up to 4 weeks - UK for example takes 3 or 4 weeks but you need to make sure you've covered for your stay on the visa stamp.

richard_smith237
If you have a replacement passport, how would you be able to prove your Visa status for 60 days and not as a Visa Exempt entry? Perhaps Immigration have a Digital Record of the Visa you arrived on and its expiry date?

These days, as long as you have your old passport number, Immigration can find the record of your entry within seconds. Twenty years ago, this was a real problem, and you were directed to a room full of TM6 cards, told to find the one showing your entry.

MS> Six weeks is usually plenty to get a replacement UK passport as long as you act promptly. However, if you do not expect to travel internationally for a while after returning from Thailand to the UK, an emergency passport may be good enough, and easier. Make sure you keep a copy of that lost passport police report safe. You will need it. Even after getting a replacement passport, keep a copy handy.

jimmjam
6 weeks is more than enough time, took 2 weeks to get my new passport from when i went to renew it.
philba
Average turn around on a replacement passport for straightforward cases is 10 working day (2 weeks) so plenty of time to sort it. If that should fail you can still apply foa a last minute ETD (Emergency Travel Document) to return to the UK.

I agree six weeks is enough time, but replacing a lost passport will probably take a bit longer than renewing an existing passport.
Mango Bob
If you are going to replace your passport make sure you get passport size photo. Plus a police report and I am sure they are going to want some type of Identification you are who you say you are.
