Hi! i would like to have some advice on my issue. I'm a thai citizen (half-indian half-thai) 23 years old and i want to bring my father who is an Indian(retired) to live with me and my mother in thailand. Which type of visa should i apply for him? Any advice to make the process easier? Thank you

Your father as a retiree will not be able to get Thai Permanent Residence status. He should apply for a Non O visa to visit you (his Thai child). Once in Thailand on the Non O visa, it is possible to apply for one-year extensions of his permission to stay. There are at least three flavours of extension that can be applied for. If he can afford to keep 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account in his name, a retirement extension is the easiest (and the one the immigration officials will try to steer you towards). If you cannot satisfy the financial proof, but your father will be staying with you, discuss your situation with the local immigration office

He should get a Single Enter Non-Immigrant O visa to enter the country. That will give him 90 days.

Towards the end of the 90 days he can;

1. Apply for a 1 year extension of stay as your parent. He would need to prove a foreign income of 40K THB pm or deposit 400K THB in a Thai bank account in his name. The 400K would only need to stay in the account for about 1 month.

or

2. Apply for a 1 year extension of stay as your dependent (under your maintenance). You would need to prove your income. There is no set level of income that I’m aware of. If you choose this option it’s best to ask the local immigration office what they need from you.

Either option can be renewed each year.

A friend of mine (ret. Brit) lives in Thailand as dependant of her son (Brit).

Why is this not possible in OP's case?

I thinks her son is on an extension of stay that allows his mother who is 50 for over to get an extension for being a member of his family.

The OP is Thai so his father may be able to get and extension based upon that.

Your father would need a non-o visa to enter the country in order for him to apply for an extension based upon being your father.
