30yo Seeking health insurance recommendation

Featured Replies

Before I jump down the rabbit hole comparing coverage and researching procedure definitions, I figured someone here might already have a fair bit of knowledge in this area and might be generous to share it.

I'm a 30 year old (married to Thai) male and looking for my first policy here in Thailand. Relatively healthy, but have woke up choking a couple times in the last couple years, so suspect GERD and possible apnea. Does insurance cover a sleep study and possible CPAP machine? Also on my overly-ambitious wish-list is laser eye surgery, fertility testing, and xray coverage. How much of this is realistic and what are some good companies to look into?

Or perhaps it would be cheaper just to pay out of pocket for all these things? I have no idea.

Thank you for your time!

If you healthy and fit, ie within BMI ratio, have a look at ACS by Allianz,

Its very cheap for very high cover, but you would be required to do some blood tests, and not a regular ones either.

Blood tests they want, cost around 4500 baht and half of clinics in Pattaya did not know what it was.

But again, if you fit, no pre conditions, and in athletic shape, this is best cover in all aspects. Once you accepted, you will have it for life and even with age, it will remain a really good competitive cover.

Other choices, contact any of the brokers and they will give you at least 3 quotes to look at.

I like global insurance https://global-insurance-pattaya.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral

Speak with Matt, top guy, knows his stuff, has been in the business for a few decades and will make best suggestions to suit your needs

Insurance will not  cover pre-existing conditions.

An inpatient-only policy, which is what most people opt for (unless forced by Thai Immigration to do otherwise...????) will not cover a sleep study nor a CPAP machine and in any case your sleep apnea -- if you have it -- is likely pre-existing.

Inclusion of outpatient cover increases premiums by 50% or more in most cases so usually not worth it.

Most policies exclude fertility treatments. Also refractive eye surgery. (woudl cover laser surgery for eye disease like detactched retina etc but not optional surgery to avoid wearing glasses).

Xrays would be covered if in[patient, outpattient would deopend on whether you had OPD cover but as mentioned this usually costs more than it iw worth. Some inpatient-only policies will cover expensive scans lie CT, MRI etc on an outpatient basis, varies with the policy.

Insurance is not something to get to cover an already defined set of health needs, it does not work that way. You get it to protect you from sudden unexpected future expenses. For a 30 year old you have abundant choice and premiums will be reasonable. You can further reduce them if you like by taking a deductible (excess) option.

You need cover of at least 1 million baht per event [per year (or 3 million per year if the cover is per year rather than event) if you are willing to sue only government hospitals. At least 4 times that if you want the option of using private hospitals.

Suggest you work through a broker. I use AA www.aainsure.net
