PEA blamed for Pattaya road collapses

1365-N2-Nov-08-03-Roads-collapsed.jpg

PATTAYA:-- Pattaya is pointing an accusatory finger at the Provincial Electricity Authority over subsidence of two city roads where the utility recently buried power and utility lines.

Deputy City Manager Worapol Pongmalee and top engineering, construction and traffic officials inspected the collapsed sections of Sukhumvit Road in front of the King Power duty-free shop and Central Road by the Pra Dul Market.

Soil under both sections of roads subsided, causing the road surface to collapse into large holes. Both areas were cordoned off with Pattaya pledging swift repairs.

Both sections of subsided roadway had been dug up by the PEA to bury power lines, utility cables and lay water pipes. City officials alleged shoddy workmanship by PEA contractors, causing both roads to collapse.

Pattaya officials said they would call the PEA in for a meeting to discuss the collapses.

No accountability- just make it look good ( temporarily) - No conscious about quality control

the roads around Pattaya have been an ongoing drama for the last 30 years. Everyone knows the real reason for the substandard workmanship and materiel. Its not going to get fixed soon.

Oooh....go wash your mouth out.....

Compaction here is equal to a few guys walking over the area in flip flops....then seal it!

I am sure that the repair works were billed extra ....... see you further first!

They really don't seem to understand or know how to handle sand!  The subsurface conditions in that whole region are pretty much sand.  Sand compacts, gets eaten away by water, etc.  No concept there of stabilizing a road bed.

Only the beginning of this problem, then the repairs will need to be repaired, then no more buried cables...

Oh they understand.

That they get paid treble when they need to do it three times.

The same as the number of kickbacks.

I rode down Klang recently and noticed that one of the concrete covers still had the lifting hooks proud by over 2 inches, a motorcycle accident waiting to happen.

Still, High season is just around the corner.

A common garden hoe, or a lightweight plate tamper is not an effective way to compact soil;
