Original NON-OA changed to NON-RE: insurance still required?

Featured Replies

Not sure if anyone has had this experience yet, but I'd appreciate your thoughts anyway. I came in on a NON-OA in 2009. I decided that I needed to work so not long after got the appropriate extension and work permit, and then a few years later retired and got an extension based on that (NON-RE as it shows in my passport). I think I'm probably OK for a renewal later this month without insurance, but am not sure if the original OA will be the basis for the decision. Any help here?

You apparently are on a extension of stay based upon retirement that you applied for when you stopped working. I would assume you got a non-b visa before you started working which means you continued extending that type of visa entry.

The NON-RE you see is what they put on a arrival stamp to indicate that you used a Re-Entry permit to enter the country. It means it was a re-entry permit for a non immigrant visa entry/extension.

You do not need to worry about needing insurance it the above is correct.

I believe it was a NON-B - the paperwork was done by the company's rep at the One Stop center.

Thank you UBONJOE.
