BANGKOK (Reuters) - Pope Francis was set to meet Thailand's supreme Buddhist patriarch, prime minister and king at the start of an official visit on Thursday, before celebrating a mass with tens of thousands of Thai Catholics.

DNA collected from the sisters and son of the suspect in the murder of 25-year-old Japanese tourist Tomoko Kawashita who was found dead in the Sukhothai Historical Park area on May 25, 2007, indicates that the suspect, who remains unnamed and has since died, was guilty, Justice Minister, Somsak Thepsutin announced on Wednesday (November 20).

KRABI: Navy personnel and national park officers in Krabi safely recovered a Chinese man and his daughter from the yacht they were on Tuesday night (Nov 19) after a mooring line tied to a buoy broke in strong winds, leaving the pair adrift on a yacht with an engine that would not start.

PHUKET: A man wanted for speeding through the main police checkpoint onto the island and escaping capture by police last month has been arrested while trying to smuggle more than 18,000 methamphetamine (ya bah) pills hidden inside his car into Phuket.

Excise Department eyes jet fuel tax discount to help domestic airlines

BANGKOK (NNT) - Many low cost domestic carriers have reported losses this year, one of the factors being the increase in jet fuel tax of 0.2 baht to 4.73 baht per liter in 2017. The losses have led to some airlines cancelling certain domestic routes. The Excise Department has held talks with airline representatives and fuel suppliers on the feasibility of reducing the jet fuel tax as a remedial measure.

FTA with EU will raise Thai GDP by 1.63%: study
