davidupatterson Posted November 23, 2019 Share Posted November 23, 2019 Hey all, I am in need of a new passport (my free passport pages are running out) and would rather not travel back to the US to get one. I see that the embassy in Bangkok and the consulate in Chiang Mai offer passport renewal services via mail for Americans. Does anyone have any recent experience with this process? I'm in Chiang Mai and would prefer to do it here if possible. Is it pretty straightforward without too many risks (lost passport) or delays? Thanks for your help. Go to their website for more info and to make an appointment. You can arrange to pick up your new passport at the consulate when it's ready. lexilis Posted November 24, 2019 Share Posted November 24, 2019 I did it in August. Very easy. Make an appointment (online). At the appointment you will be out in less than an hour. holy cow cm Posted November 24, 2019 Share Posted November 24, 2019 Easy to do. Did my 2 kids fitst and latest passports and will do another one for me being second time at CM. Fast turn around too. I haven't dug into the details yet (like cost) but even if it's more expensive than getting a new passport in the US, this certainly works out to be more financially advantageous than going back to the US. That's what they're pushing, at least with wall posters last time I visited the Consulate (June 2019). Quote Processing time to renew passports by mail is the same as applying in person.
