A Cabinet meeting last week has approved the draft law on houses and shops around Rattanakosin Island, including making cream the standard colour and tone of buildings in the area.

The draft law further prescribes roofs to be dark grey; they must not use reflective or glossy material; and, the fronts of the buildings must not have awnings, air-conditioners or any antennas.

The essential point of the draft is to specify the prohibited areas for construction or modification of certain types of buildings in the following areas in Bangkok:

Areas near Grand Palace, Chanasongkram, Talat Yot subdistrict, San Chao Pho Suea, Bowon Niwet, Sao Chingcha, Ratchabophit, Samran Rat, Wang Burapha Phirom, Ban Phan Thom, Wat Sam Phraya, Bang Khun Phrom, Phra Nakhon, Samphanthawong, Chakkrawisak, Talat Noi, Samphanthawong, Wat Sommanat, Ban Bat, Khlong Mahanak, Wat Thepsirin, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Bangyeekan, Bangplad, Arunamarin, Siriraj, Bangkok Noi, War Arun, Bangkok Yai, Wat Kalaya subdistrict, Thon Buri and Somdet Chaopraya, and Khlong San.
