Popular Post webfact
Majority of Thais agree with conscription – Super Poll 81.9% of respondents to a Super Poll agree that there is no better alternative to conscription when ensuring national security and that assistance is available to Thai people in cases of a natural disaster or civil unrest. 18.1% insist, however, that there are better alternatives, such as voluntary enlisting or paying the state to avoid conscription. Super Poll conducted an opinion survey on the topic of “Politicians and Revocation of Conscription” by sampling the opinions of 3,084 netizens, in various occupations, nationwide and the opinions of 1,250 face to face between November 15th and 30th. The poll shows 60.3% of the respondents were impressed with the performance of troops during the 2011 Big Flood. 56.0% were impressed with the efforts to rescue the Wild Boar footballers from the flooded Tham Luang cave. 50.8% were impressed with troops during the widespread flooding in the north-east this year. 41.7% were impressed with military’s role in rural development and 36.4% for their involvement in other miscellaneous matters. Because no professional bodies have ever been set up so it is either that or nowt. Set such agencies up under civil management without the greens deciding who does what and then get back to us. There is no better alternative because there IS no alternative, not really. So what other answer can those polled come up with? Popular Post daveAustin
While I agree with some form of military training for youngsters as opposed to sitting on their bottom, I think the less we hear of these two words together - Military / Thailand - the better. 12

Wow, you have issues that you need help with, Fled is an incorrect word to use for farangs who have invested in this country, who have enriched the economy, have brought their love for the people. Being lucky, like myself, marry a great Thai national. Who I took all around my home country to see if she could live there, her response was she could do so, but preferred to live back in Thailand, so I made the compromise and sold up and moved, that in its self was not easy, but you have no thought of that in your post. Do not use a wide brush in your immature personal opinion, when you know nothing about myself, my circumstances, or many other FARANGS that call Thailand home, korp khun krub. 21

Popular Post colinneil
Amazing thing about this poll is 99% of people polled were either army generals or their spouses. Not beyond the realms of possibility as there were apparently 3,084 people polled and we have 1,600 generals (plus spouses would make it 3,200). 6 1

Popular Post Eligius
What a joke! Of course I believe the accuracy and genuine all-nation representativeness of this 'scientific poll' - of course I believe it, implicitly. Popular Post TooBigToFit
Superpoll company has been pumping out rubbish polls continually lately. Thailand is owned by a group of people who will continue to use the sons of the poor against the people from their own villages when they come to Bangkok to protest. Most soldiers are from rural areas yet are most generals? 8

A lot of anger for a newbie keyboard warrior here on TVF, it's an open forum, be nice to your fellow farangs, i.e. would be nice of you to tone it down. To try and answer your question, he is who he is, making his statement, no need for the angro attack, how dare you have a go at us "Loser farangs" fleeing our countries, because we couldn't find women back home or afford to live there. Won't ask what your doing here, and I am sure most of us would agree that it wasn't to find a woman, God forbid with that agro, so one would assume that you brought your woman from back home with you and your a rich Charlie, suffice to say, I can't think of any other reason that you would be here to join the ranks of us "Loser farangs" who couldn't find woman back home, and also had to flee our countries because we couldn't afford to live there, oh....please !!!! 6

Popular Post madmitch
Looking at the logo Superpoll seems to be run by Thai PBS who are one of the many Government mouthpieces. I note that over 3000 people were polled in this case, rather than the ususal figure between 1000 and 1200. The cynic in me wonders whether they started polling the wrong people and didn't get the result their employers wanted so were asked to start polling the right people. No, surely they woldn't do something like that....would they? 3

Q3: the army needs people, would you agree conscription is okay to get enough people to help you in case of need? Yes? Really? Okay, you support conscription. Popular Post spidermike007
Can Thai PBS be trusted as a source? Can any organization that subsists with government funding be expected to be impartial? Of course not. Believe this nonsense at your own peril. Any poll can get any result, depending on the way the questions are framed, and who is selected as the pool of people being questioned. They were likely government employees! One thing is for certain. You can always assume anything coming from this administration, or a poll being directed by them, is going to be false, colored, and a deflection of truth and reality. The majority most certainly do not agree with conscription. Unless we are talking about absolutely desperate parents, who have created a monster, and are now suffering the consequences of spending his entire upbringing telling him how special he is, with absolutely no basis in fact, and find themselves having no idea how to handle the overly entitled creature that they created.
