It's been 4 years since I've been in Pattaya and last time I brought my laptop. I don't want to bring it this time and I won't be activating my Mobile Phone which is based in a foreign country.

With all the smart phones and tablets and laptops today,

Is it still easy to find an internet cafes in Pattaya?

TIA

?

There is no need to have a SIM in the mobile phone to use public/hotel WiFi.

You can buy credit for public WiFi that is available at many tourist hotspots.

Tons of cafes and places offer WiFi.

Also easy and cheap to buy a Thai SIM for mobile internet with data plan for holiday (assuming phone it is not provider locked).

A few hundred Baht all incl.

Bring your smartphone!

At least one internet cafe in Soi Buakhao I remember from August.

Wasn't the one on Soi Lengkee also still there?

And as above post: sure many more.

You dont have to buy a sim to have access to wifi in coffee shops, hotel etc. You would only be buying a sim if you want cellular internet via your phone. There is wifi everywhere.

As above: no need for a SIM if you only want WiFi.

You can buy access time for public WiFi or use free WiFi at some cafes, bars etc. And many hotels offer free WiFi for guests.

A SIM is only needed if you want to be independent and use mobile (cellular phone network) internet.

For that you can buy a Thai (tourist) SIM.

In Pattaya it's best to visit the service centers of one of the providers (take your passport with you).

AIS as an example has a service center at Central Festival shopping on beach rd.

3rd floor as far as I remember.

Why go there: they have some staff that understands English well enough and knows want you want.

Quite sure DTAC and True also have service centers there.

The remarks about WiFi also apply to a notebook/laptop of course.

Hi.  I was amused by Johng’s mention of a fax machine at an internet cafe because I had need of a fax machine last year for the first time in decades:

I had received a notification in the mail to report for jury duty in my hometown of Baltimore.  Though I live in Thailand, my driver’s license has my brother’s Baltimore address as my permanent address, which is where the notification was sent.

So, I phoned the Baltimore City Courthouse and asked to be excused from jury duty, explaining that I was out of the country.  The clerk helpfully told me that I could be excused if I would send them a letter from my employer here.…by fax!!

Fax?  I asked whether I could send the letter by email attachment, but it was fax or nothing.  So I sent a fax from a local hotel, and I later received notification by mail of my excusal from jury duty.
