Until the Thai's IMHO seek outside assistance to show them how it's done overseas and the Thai police force are serious about getting off of their rear ends, then the carnage will continue, what I am saying is the Thai mentality is all wrong when it comes to enforcement, again IMO, that or I am missing some point ?

The point you're missing is this is Thailand  and Thais don't give a "rats" what other countries do.

They are happy with the freedom to get on the road by purchasing a licence for a small fee with no tuition. They don't want driving lessons, driving tests, written tests... that all costs money and time, both they'll swear the don't have.
They are happy to DUI and get a roadside ticket, pay the fine and on your way, if you ban them you prevent them from making a living when they sober up, that won't do either, families to feed etc etc.

The police have better things to take care of than be road nannies... money to be made elsewhere!

As for the deaths & injuries Thais happily take this in their stride and are not as upset as other countries and certainly do not want changes made.

This is Thailand, buy your licence & drive/ride... learn as you go!

Just accept it....

Drunk driving as usual the main cause of death and injury. Everyone caught drunk driving should initially have their vehicle confiscated, and the courts (NOT THE POLICE) should hand down as a minimum

A few minutes after I arrived at a quiet venue on a straight road two nights ago (30th) I heard a sickening thud & looked round to see a body laying on the road 100m away looking in a very bad way.

I later established that an unlicenced, underaged kid on a bike had ploughed into 2x static foreigners who were also on a bike. They too were quite badly injured. All 3 were taken to hospital. The young kid barely moved after the initial impact & I suspect he may well have died.

They have got to crack down on automobile ownership.

They have got to crack down on uncaring/corrupt/lazy police.

Why?  But I agree with all the other points.

If you buy a car in any country, they expect to see a driver's license.

Thailand is an exception in many things.

You can buy a bike, even super bikes.

No need to show a license.

Registration is obviously not compulsory for the selling outlet.

Which means no basic insurance cover either.

They do not check that you have a license.

They certainly don't see if you are wearing a helmet.

Zero % interest.

First payment and off you go.

I think that some onus should fall on the bike seller.

No different from the people renting bikes...IMO.

There will obviously be a lot fewer poor/dangerous drivers on the road next week.

Along with a few good drivers that got hit by the poor/dangerous drivers.

I don’t know how any Thais with wheels live to be middle aged.

When I almost smash some bike going the wrong way on the highway with no lights on, it’s almost always some old as dirt man or woman. How did they live that long making such poor decisions? It’s amazing.

Dont you know its all the lucky charms and pendants ????????
