A video of the final moments of 51 year old Gary McLaren has been posted by Siam Chon News.

Mr McLaren can be seen ushering people to pass by as he attends to a large rocket set up outside a pub in Soi 13/2 on New Year's Eve.

After some moments he turns it over and it starts to spark. He then appears to look closely at it before it explodes.

Siam Chon News said this was the clearest evidence yet of the tragedy.

Warning: Graphic footage. Viewer discretion advised

Mr McLaren's grieving fiancee Jasmine posted in Thai on her Facebook page just hours later in response to inquiries from friends:

"My boyfriend died on December 31st after a firework exploded in his face.

"We were due to marry on January 17th".

Thaivisa understands that Mr McLaren's body was transported to Bangkok for an autopsy. Jasmine had been helping the Pattaya police with their inquiries.

Mr McLaren was a frequent visitor to Pattaya and was extremely well liked. He was involved in the Moto GP bike community in IT and technology.

The story of his death was trending at number one most read on the BBC's online.news site on New Year's Day.

Once lit step well away, never try to relight if it has not exoloded.

These items should only be place in a safe area, without crowds and public property.

If you ever want to be cured of the urge to play with fireworks, go camp out at the entrance to any hospital emergency room on New Year's Eve and watch all the idiots walk thru with blown-off fingers and other life-altering injuries.

That if he would blow on the wick it would burn faster, which it did.

A wasted life and maybe fueled by some New Year "spirit".

Almost six(!) seconds after initial lighting hanging over that bomb.

Very sad for the wife to be,but once you light it u should not be standing over it after.all u can say is RIP now

60 of more years ago with Brocks and Standard fireworks came ' Light the blue touch paper stand well clear '.   Never was written ' If blue touch paper goes out lean over the firework and try try again '.  common sense really.

very sad and sounded like a really nice guy

fireworks that size in a busy street, very easy to knock over (as I mentioned already) and go off into a packed bar or people walking past - it really is stupidity beyond comprehension

but what Gary did is on a whole different level

tragic

RIP

????????????????????

Of all of the pointless ways to die, this one is right up there!

IMHO if people post movies of accidents, especially that this lead to an avoidable death then perhaps people might just think twice before doing the same.  Reading about it is one thing but to see it actually happen, even if blurred out should in most cases leave an imprint and a big reminder that all fireworks are dangerous. This is why as kids we visited managed firework shows in the local park and standing at a safe distance.  We learnt at a very age that this can happen. As he is a brit, he would have been taught this at school and on TV so i can only think possibly alcohol played a big part in his demise where common sense goes out the window. To lean over any firework especially one this size and power is akin to looking down the barrel of a cannon! RIP

I haven't noticed that all the Brits who are not yet drunk act very rational in Thailand...

And obviously not only the Brits.

A tragic accident by a very popular and well liked man.

We are all guilty of stupidity from time to time and wiser after the event, mostly we get away with it.

Unfortunately, this man didn't. RIP and a terrible shame.

Such a waste of life, seems to have been a fantastic life loving guy loved by all...so easily avoided, beggars believe

I am totally shocked about this. One mistake like this and he is gone.

He got too involved in the process and forgot about his own personal safety.

R.I.P.

Young? Doubt it and definitely old enough to know better.

What exactly was he thinking ? A. Putting his head over an explosive device and B. what if it had fallen over and shot it's contents into the nearby bars and people ?

Horrifying tragic. RIP. MS>

Too be fair not everybody is experienced with fireworks, add a few drinks and you could easily make a mistake. And these things can be unpredictable.

The other night I lit off a firework which had six chambers that went of in sequence. We were in a safe place and it was level ground. regardless the first blast knocked the thing over, and then it was shooting the rest in random directions at head height. and they were exploding in our range.  I was there with five kids. Nothing to do but hope you don't get hit. The kids loved it though.

What a way to go. So easily avoided.

A momentary lapse of reason. Few
