Could someone guide me the right process in obtaining a Thai Citizenship?

A little about my background.

Im a son of a Thai mother and a Japanese Father.

I was born in Kathmandu, Nepal in 1989. (Im 30 now)

When I was born, my parents did not register my birth at the Thai embassy, only at the Japanese.

I could have gotten both nationalities. but i never got my thai birth certificate.

Now, ive decided that i want to be back living in Thailand, and it would be good to have the Thai citizenship, not worrying about work permits etc.

Has anyone been through a similar situation where they need to get their Thai birth certificate to obtain a Thai citizenship aged 30+?

what all processes do I need to go through.

any advices will be appreciated.

Thanks.

You would have to apply for your Thai birth certificate at the Thai embassy in Kathmandu. Info in Thai is here.

If here in Thailand the Consular Affairs Department of the MFA in Bangkok can assist with doing the application.

After getting your birth certificate you would need to be registered in house book at a Amphoe to get a Thai ID number, a Thai ID card and passport.

Thanks Ubonjoe!

I am currently based in Japan and do travel to Thailand quite often  with my 30day visa free.

Will i be able to apply with that at the Consular Affairs department?

how long does the process usually take?
