Billion baht Indians are the answer! TAT go to New Delhi all guns blazing for more Indian tourists

A large delegation of enthusiastic officials from the Tourism Authority of Thailand are once again trying to woo  Indians into visiting Thailand.

Led by commitee chief Tosserporn Sirisampan, MCOT said the group expects Indians to spend a whopping 1.1 billion baht in Thailand this year.

They reckoned that 1.95 million visited in 2019.

They are at the South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange in the Indian capital to promote Thailand and expand into new markets.

Chatthan Kunchorn na Ayuthaya, a South Asia and Pacific tourism expert, said that the fair would attract 50,000 attendees to 1,000 booths and was a great place to showcase the attractiveness of Thailand.

He said that Indians were already familiar with places like Bangkok and Pattaya but interest in Phuket, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui was growing.

With 25 million Indians expected to travel abroad this year Thailand wants a growing share of this increasing market.

Especially targeted are Bollywood to encourage film makers to make movies in the kingdom, businesspeople being wooed to hold meetings and seminars as well as couples holding weddings and going on honeymoons.

I don't think you need a huge campaign to attract tourists from India.

Bangkok is the closest (and therefore cheapest) international fun city for them. They would

come even if mistreated.

TAT comes up trumps once more...no messing with these guys, shortage of tourists...we can drag them in from anywhere....:whistling:

I don't know why mega rich Indians would even consider Thailand as a go to place when there are so many more beautiful (not in drought conditions) places they can go to and probably safer as well .

With all the Thai-Indian 'Gheks' living here, did they bring some of them along to tell their Indian brothers and sisters about how great, lovely, fair and decent Thailand and Thais are??

"Most"? Less than 15% are Muslims. Less than 30% are vegetarian.

Guess you missed the amount of Muslim visitors from other countries too. They don't seem to have any issues visiting Thailand.

Very rich Indians are more likely to visit other destinations.

The groups of men over on "boys trips" might increase but they are notorious low spenders. (Saw an outrageous number trying to squeeze into a taxi along with their suitcases a few weeks back. Incredibly tight and mean).

Families might be a good target. But, IME, Indians when travelling like Indian food, like to be treated like VIP Elites, and like to act like arrogant VIP's. Completely different to how they act at home.

If numbers of Indian tourists do increase expect some fun and games!

Less than 10% of Indians are muslim, pale, and only vegetarian when too poor for travelling to Thailand

Calculator confirms you are very close, about 546 baht each.

They are just normal people when they come as a family or couple. Probably even on the nicer and more polite side. It’s the packs of whore mongers that are an issue and as you’re aware, CM doesn’t have them.

Yes, come and visit Thailand, the air quality here is better than in New Delhi - but only just!

It must be for the same reason that "mega rich" people from other "top" countries come to Thailand.

Ha ha ha... the truth hurts and the absolute truth is a killer!!!

If I knew they were looking for me, I would run and hide.   Indians I know know a good value.   Is that Thailand anymore as compared to Vietnam?

  • Popular Post

I suggest you look into mirror TAT and see the real reasons why people are not visiting Thailand. Things what I hear every day in Malaysia and China starting from the obvious high baht, visa issues and less than friendly immigration + all scams on top of that. All this has been discussed here many times over.

If you need to go out and try to lure visitors then alarm bells should be ringing. Vietnam does not need to do the same. We all know too well also that Indians and Chinese are really not that high spenders and the wealthy ones go elsewhere.

They really are so out of touch of the problems but I guess they will have it slapped on their faces once the people are starting to run out of money and food which is coming soon as Thais have very little or no savings at all.

Are TAT the most inept organization in Thailand? Do they actually get paid for coming up with these ideas?

Was at Icon Siam on the weekend to watch the water show. There was a group tour of about 400 Indian's being lead to ferry boats. What got me there was no women with them. They were well behaved and stinking of cologne.
