Thai Foreign Minister criticized in parliament for Baghdad drone attack remark

Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai was criticized by opposition MPs in parliament today over his controversial claim about receiving advance notice of the US drone attack, which killed an Iranian military commander, General Qasem Soleimani, in Baghdad, as both Opposition and Government MPs sought to cut the Foreign Ministry’s budget for the 2020 fiscal year.

On the second day of the House debate on the budget bill today, Pheu Thai MP Cholnan Srikaew said that Mr. Don’s claim, which was subsequently retracted by the Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Busadee Santipitak, had given him cause for concern that the foreign minister’s actions could suck Thailand into the US-Iran situation.

He also praised the spokeswoman for doing a good job in correcting the error in a timely manner. Thailand’s Foreign Minister falsely claimed on Tuesday that the US had informed Thailand in advance of the drone attack on January 6th.

Can you imagine if a country did a drone attack on someone very important in Thailand, and another country bragged, "Yea, we were informed about the attack before it happened" Can they not see how bad this is?

Ah... Don and the White House. Such thick buddies.

Macron, Merkel and Johnson must've been stewing in their juices that they apparently were bluntly passed by with such important information in favor of Mr. Don.

Great relief in Paris, Berlin and London and champagne bottles popping when Don's claim turned out to be a lie -- which he didn't even have the spine to admit by himself, but instead let a spokesperson deliver the truth.

Absolute flannel... The Trump administration don't advise the U.S. Congress (House or Senate), the Germans, British, French, or any other former coalition partner prior to this action, but Thailand gets a heads up, where do they find these morons.

Mystified a lot of smart people for a long time has that question.

Personally, I think there is copious evidence that the diplomatic community outside Thailand takes whatever Thais say with a bucket full of salt. Nobody takes Dom seriously, he's just a blowhard always and only ever trying to boost his own ego. A clown.

So he's a liar then... so why wasn't he pressed to explain himself in public, the same arena in which he chose to make the statement?
