US ambassador to Cambodia Patrick Murphy on Wednesday praised Cambodia for its growth and said relations between the countries were based on a solid foundation of cooperation that would ensure the continued strengthening of ties.

 

Murphy said such a strong base meant that any differences between the nations could be easily resolved.

 

He was speaking to journalists during commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the US and Cambodia.

Well... when they wernt supporting incursions, bombings or Pol Pot, yea... I guess cause for celebration.

No kidding, US was not their friend in 1975, left them holding the bag. Just like Hmong in Laos, sad history.

I witnessed a little, it wasn't my proudest moment...

The last seventy years were marked by a partially VERY bumpy ride and most other nations would not have even mentioned this "anniversary". 

In consideration of Chinese overpower all over Cambodia this declaration of political love might come a bit too late; the Cambodian love for the US got to a screeching halt in 1970 with the installation of Lon Nol - the freezing of this friendship then occurred in 1975, where the US kept their tail between their legs and disappeared just like that overnight. Result was a vacuum they had created which was filled immediately by the Khmer Rouge. Four years later the Vietnamese came in to clean up the mess; bottomline was millions of dead Cambodians.

I hope that the US diplomats cheering these 70 years over champagne will suffocate on the bubbly. What a pathetic anniversary celebration ???? 

what is he even saying? we will turn a blind eye to your dictatorship if you allow only us to use your country as a military base?
