The chief of Thailand's tourist police and Suvarnabhumi officials gave details at a press conference yesterday following the arrest of a husband and wife for theft at the airport.

The couple were nabbed after a location signal from a stolen iPad led directly to them.

On Sunday morning a Thai man called Theerasak reported to the tourist police that he had left his iPad on TG635, a flight from Seoul into Bangkok.

An investigation soon revealed that the iPad had been removed from the aircraft and taken to the THAI building at the airport. The location device further indicated that it was then taken to accommodation in Soi Jorakhee Noi in nearby Bang Sao Thong of Samut Prakarn.

This was the home of Thippapha, 37, and her husband Muan, 29. She is a cleaner responsible for cleaning THAI aircraft employed by an outsource company. He is a belt worker at the airport.

Police soon had Thippapha in custody and she admitted taking it home from the aircraft. But she was unable to get into the iPad because it needed a code.

She claimed that she was worried that the GPS tracking on the machine would lead to her so she texted her husband and told him to get rid of it. He tossed it in the area of a canal.

Police found the iPad in a plastic bag on the banks of a klong along Thepparak Road.

The couple were charged with stealing from an airport at night.

A picture on 77kaoded showed a man (assumed to be the owner of the iPad) presenting flowers to the chief of the tourist police Pol Lt-Gen Chettha Komonwanthana.

They get good jobs for ignorant and uneducated people doing simple things at the Airport and would probably keep their jobs and income for many years to come but they can't keep their sticky fingers off other people's property, so bang goes their jobs and their freedom.......Dumb and Dumber !

I think it may have been poorly spoken or mistranslated.

Even he cannot be that naive and I think he was referring to the romance scams favored by our Nigerian friends rather the criminals scams in general.
