Reputable expert for Alzheimers

Featured Replies

My neighbor suspects he might have Alzheimer and had himself checked out in a very large private hospital here in Pattaya. He doesn't seem to entirely trust their way of work (they just keep feeding him pills without a proper diagnosis).

Any recommendations for a  trustworthy place, anywhere in Chonburi province, or Bangkok?

I was thinking some sort of university hospital may have a stronger interest in the patient's health vs the finances.

Tell your neighbor to ramp up the mental exercises - puzzles, solitaire, sudoku, crosswords. Use it or lose it. AFAIK there is no cure for Ahlzheimers as yet; however, onset can be delayed. There is some promising research in Australia.

This is a top doctor for it in Thailand. He will run tests to exclude other causes and can arrange cognitive function tests:

While it is true that treatments to date are very limited, it is prudent for anyone who suspects they may be developing this to get checked out while still able to think and plan clearly since it has obviously implications for long term personal and financial planning.

too many expats here leave it until too late and both they and their families (if any) end up in very bad situation as a result.

@Sheryl  , a huge thank you from my neighbor as well!!

He did in fact meet with the recommended specialist in Bangkok, and had a total of three visits.

Turns out, he did NOT have Alzheimer's, but a Vitamin B12 deficiency plus another minor issue that led to his symptoms.

I am both glad that it turned out this way, and flabbergasted at the carelessness of the "top class" private hospital here in Pattaya.

Thank you once more ????

Yes, it makes a big difference to consult a top specialist.

Testing for B12 deficiency (along with thyroid deficiency and some other things) is standard for a dementia work-up.

Good news that a  treatable cause was found in your friend's case. It not infrequently is, unfortunately people sometimes refrain from getting expert help in the belief nothing can be done or that it is an inevitable part of aging.
