Future Forward party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit and four others reported to Pathum district police today (Friday), to acknowledge charges of holding a political gathering without permission at the Pathumwan skywalk in mid-December.

The four others are Pairatthachote Chantharakachorn, former electoral candidate of Future Forward party, political activist Prit “Penguin” Chivarak, Ms. Nattha “Bo” Mahatthana and Thanawat Wongchai, one of the organizers of the “Wing Lai Loong” (Run against Dictatorship) event.

Pathumwan police said that they have issued summonses for Future Forward secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, spokeswoman Ms. Pannika “Chor” Wanich and MP Pitha Limcharoeenrat, who took part in the skywalk protest, to report to the Pathum district police station for acknowledgement of similar charges.

Using the law to punish political opponents.

Third-world behaviour.

What else to say?

Be fair, the PM is probably too busy posing for a 40 ft Founding Fathers New World statue to bother just yet

the whole idea of requiring permission, easily denied, from an authoritarian government highlights thailand's backwardness

Totally agree, I like him. He would be the best PM for thailand.

I remember a lot of people feeling the same just after the Prayut coup, but most have retracted their support for that clown ???? I was one of them too

Suppression comes at a price, eventually people try to break free.

I admire his style, using the Junta oppression to his own aims. Turn up at the station, say here I am, not what are you going to do. All he has done is acknowledge the charges, not pleaded guilty to them, but in doing so gives himself lots of free publicity, and keeps his party in the news....

I'm sure he would like to make his points from inside Parliament.  But he is not allowed to.

Change for the better lies with all those named.   Until that change happens, Vietnam and Malaysia will reap the rewards of tourism and better business opportunities, while Thailand moves steadily backwards.

That's how it is done in these parts: https://freedomhouse.org/report/freedom-world/freedom-world-2019/map

Love it or leave it. It's embedded in their culture.

He might be aiming for a martyr status. That could trigger an "arab spring", however Thais are so languid I doubt it.

Any bets on how many people are gonna attend the 2 events tomorrow, the Run Against Dictatorship & the FFP political rally ? I seriously hope that the Thais will put on a good show and show the dinosaurs that their time has come to move on let real people with real qualifications run the country and repeal all these draconian laws.

And in respect to making a balanced post, don't forget that the crusties are having a stroll in their slippers in support of the morons in charge, that's tomorrow as well ???? I wonder which one steven100 will attend ????

How about saying politicians aren't above the law.

If they knowingly break them, then they should be dealt with as anybody else.

and how many, so called first world democracies have rules that require local permission before demonstrations?

Quite a few I think you'll find.

I have just read an interesting article in the BP, posted about an hour ago on the online edition re the EC and dodgy dealings with regard to FFP, have a look ????

Any charge will do to get rid of the opposition. He is finished this guy That is how dictatorships work. Ask Hung Sen In Cambodia He is a specialist at it.Thailand is no different than Cambodia.
