Where does Thaksin and his supporters stand in all this ? I mean, of course, they are very much anti-Prayut but are they pro-Thanatorn and actually would want him as the PM ? What are the ties (if any) between Thaksin and Thanatorn ?

Don't be silly, if there was ever a free election Thaksin would be voted PM.

If there was a free election, but Thaksin wasn't allowed to stand, his nominee would be voted PM.

Thanatorn is a pal of Thaksin according to the CMU political activists.

Which is why they can never have another election without the army counting the votes.

Or people who fear their government might beat, shoot or imprison them.

Agree, still plenty of Thais who watched live on or TV the violence and mahem, burning personal and public property etc., from the last 25 / 30 years (and of course many are aware from listening to their older parents lived through earlier violence etc.).

Many of these folks very afraid of more violence.
