  • Isn´t that the reason to come to Pattaya?

  • I sense something is changing in Thailand....an awareness that "we" can't carry on like this any longer.    But then again, Thais are extremely resilient to change and inconvenient truths.

  • good luck with trying to tidy up Pattaya

Sorry but the place is F*U*B*A*R. :sorry:

Surely they cannot be talking about the world class beach resort that families from all over the world are flocking to?

No idea who is this "Pattaya Watchdog" but looks like someone who clearly doesn't like Pattaya and tries to make its image far worse than reality !

Most the points he states are just BS !

Funny, I didn't think that Egyptian river De Nile flows through the eastern seaboard.

As one of the last bastions of providing what men want heaven forbid the demise of Pattaya in all it's scruffy, seedy glory.

Having children isn't a miracle, it's the same process we're chasing on sale all over the city, so spare us all this 'families' nonsense and stuff your feminism where the monkey stuffs his nuts. Not many men oriented things left, they've even invaded football and rugby. ????

Like taking away casinos from Las Vegas, who'd wanna go there?

But you'll notice that even the best known casinos in Las Vegas get torn down and rebuilt when they get too old and decrepit.  Something that should have happened decades ago to a lot of Pattaya.  But they refuse to re-invest in the resource.

"It is not all about price, they said on Facebook, comparing Pattaya to having a coffee at Starbucks. Even if it is more expensive than the competition people might still come if they like the quality, flavor, cleanliness and atmosphere of Starbucks. "

.....see this is a great example of why they are having a problem. Thai's think Starbucks is high priced but good quality. Most Europeans think Starbucks is overpriced rubbish.

Pattaya worked very well 'till the Baht went up....

Yep, that's because foreigners had to sober up and then they saw where they were and they left never to return.

Now its Indians and Chinese. Bus loads of them.

Here is something that cracks me up. A friend visited the area passing through. He stopped at that silly floating market thing on the highway. As they walked around shopping they saw Chinese people buying up various "Thai" souvenirs. When he looked at the bottom it said "Made in China"...????

Not before time, I agree the whole place does need to be sorted out especially the greed and way over the top prices at some of the entertainment establishments.

Yeah, straight after they do the same at Nana and Soi Cowboy!

Baht has been in a trading band of $ 30-33 for quite some years. The real problem is the other side of the currency pairings not the Baht...... Common misconception sadly

"...when money was spent it was done on the cheap."

But paid far above retail. Gee, where did the money go?

Take beach road Jomtien. Every time it is "improved" it is made worse: cut down old shade trees, sidewalks and stairs cracking and sinking; handicapped ramp collapsed first hard rain (so just bury it...), etc etc

"savvy tourists are choosing to go elsewhere for beach holidays like Cambodia and Vietnam, and even Bali"

Which Cambodian resort is attracting tourists because it is higher quality than Pattaya?

Surely not Sihanoukeville, which is owned almost down to the last hotel, restaurant, bar and casino by Chinese... and populated by Chinese males mainly there for gambling... and the disorder they create can't be controlled by the police or local Authorities.... and the infrastructure is a mess. The prices are too high for Cambodians and non-Chinese tourists won't go near the place any more..

The other coastal destination there, Kaep, doesn't really have a beach

So the only savvy tourists Pattaya is missing out on and Cambodia is getting are Chinese males who want to gamble...  but Pattaya is not in the business of trying to attract Chinese gamblers. ....and anyway how could they be classed as savvy in any sense like having awareness or knowledge or of respect for different destinations...?

The watchdog is misinformed if it comes up with conclusions like that ..

Yes the baht buses are fine when you stick to their normal set routes..it can get a bit  rip-offy if you need them to go somewhere out of the norm...not to mention the  "metered Taxis"  that won't use the meter even after all these years of announcements and crackdowns !!!

The taxis are good value in Pattaya when compared to Phuket.

On the bright side its a world class filthy dangerous vice ridden rip off resort with a super new beach in the dry season ????

i have no problem with the baht buses, where else can one get a bus for 10 baht , ride into town, get rat assed then get a baht bus home at 3 am for another 10 baht, its the mafia taxis that they should be worried about, ripping off tourists not the baht buses

  • Popular Post

Rubbish. They're not going to Pattaya primarily for the same reasons they're not going anywhere else in Thailadand. The Baht. Just more conservative clap trap.

The 1500 baht bar fines at gogo's, etc must be a factor.

Maybe the girls are now priced by the pound, hence the huge price increase.

Sounds to me like the whole country

Dirty beaches

Prostitutes and scary vagrants loitering about everywhere

Terrible traffic including tour buses creating danger entering narrow sois

Litter everywhere since widespread refuse collection disputes in 2016 - 2017

Holes in uneven sidewalks littered with bricks and breeze blocks - all making tourist injuries common

CCTV that doesn't work making crime solving problematical

A useless transport system including baht buses that rip people off

They said Pattaya was inconvenient.

Not nearly enough had been spent on good public utilities - and when money was spent it was done on the cheap.

Just the way I like it.  ????

Only one way, Thats flatten it and start again it was a sh-it hole 20 years ago even worse

Catering for the Chinese and Indians obviously hasn't worked as expected.

TAT needs to be overhauled as they are clueless about the "one job they had"

You cant manage Tourism if you have no idea about the Cultures of other Countries.

Example:
There is a coffee shop in Pattaya that just opened, aimed at the Tourist Market, but all advertising is done in Thai and the owners seem oblivious to the fact that Tourists dont read Thai and dont understand why Tourists dont know about the Coffee Shop

If TAT isnt leading the way with useful and honest information, then the locals will continue to make mistakes.
