True. There is a (shrinking) market for sleazy, filthy seaside resorts but Pattaya has unwillingly priced itself out of that market due to the strong baht. The envisioned transition to a respectable family resort town has so far been unconvincing. You would need a clean(ish) beach for that to eventuate, and then deal with the raft of other issues.

Please expand on "shrinking".

Where did you get this information?

It can't be right. The whole world revolves around the oldest profession

Didn't you know that? Of course it's not shrinking - it's growing.

Except in Pattaya........... Haha

aimed at the Tourist Market, but all advertising is done in Thai

Maybe they want to attract Thai tourists..Pattaya became very popular with Bangkok residents during the "big flood" a few years ago..they continue to clog up the roads every weekend.

When I read it first I thought it was about pattaya police......

Whats the Baht Bus Scam?

Still have no idea why some baht buses half full drive past and refuse to pick people up

Everyone knows Pattaya, both virtues and vices.  What’s really keeping people away—the high Baht.

Let's be honest... The prostitutes is why anyone ever was a repeat visitor to Pattaya .... And I heard that those have gotten really expensive recent years....

A Gofund would help, may not fix all problems.  Everyone needs to do there job and be responsible.  Take a back pack to teh grocery store, decline plastic straws, use garbage cans, be nice to people...everyone is responsible.

An inconvenient truth

No idea who is this "Pattaya Watchdog" but looks like someone who clearly doesn't like Pattaya and tries to make its image far worse than reality !

Most the points he states are just BS !

There must be 2 Pattayas then.

Hasn't this tired old line been used up yet?

Apparently not!

People rush to their keyboards to make these posts as soon as a Pattaya topic

crops up! The weird thing is that they often get multiple likes.

I'm guessing the "world class resort", "no prostitution in Pattaya" type posters

are simpletons who think that they are being genuinely funny and entertaining.

Let's wait and see.

I do not think most Thais would care if Pattaya was wiped off the map. They may even rejoice.

The rats, what about the rats ? everywhere that there are piles of garbage standing around, and that means everywhere ???? Otherwise, I think Pattaya has one  of the best transport systems anywhere, 10 bht Bahtbuses scooting along every several seconds, and I honestly do believe most people come here because of the wild nightlife ????

I would . One of the happiest days of my life to see that pit gone.

I fully agree. Get rid of all the family travellers and bring it back to it's former glory.

People go to Pattaya for the beach? Who knew?

I thought it was "golf".

As in Honey, I'm taking a vacation in Pattaya to play "golf". ????

The place went downhill in recent years. Bali Hai park failure and beach road 5 lane highway failure.

Also the farangs left and got replaced by bunch of Indians that didn’t help either.

Tourist numbers aren’t down because of how Pattaya is! Pattaya’s always been rough round the edges, for some people the chaos is part of the lure! It’s performed well in the past when it was rougher! Numbers are down because of rising costs! Same as Phuket!

That “useless transport system” including Those “rip off” 10 baht baht buses that take you everywhere are so awful ???? get a grip!!

For a relative newbie, you have a good grasp of the situation Kemp.

As you imply, that Baht Bus system is one of the most VFM urban transport systems anywhere! 10 Baht to go right round town...why it's only 20 to get from N Pattaya to Jomtien

Try Phuket - get on a "tuk-tuk" - 150 Baht please.

And yes, Pattaya is and always has been "rough round the edges"...and in the middle too, come to that! Long may it remain. ????

Bent cops too.

Now that the supply of western ex-pats has dried up I fear the heyday of Pattaya is over.

Could have been different, but the Thais have no sense.

good luck with trying to tidy up Pattaya

apart from transport rip offs how about

lady boys attacking stealing muggings and so on

the beaches

the streets

the so called clubs

Safety

and list could go on

but I agree that Pattaya's Days are numbered

people are finding new places to go where they can feel safe too

It'll eventually go the way of Snooky when Thais in desperation open up casinos. The heydays for the city might be ahead, but it'll be no place for a white man. In effect a Chinese conclave. They are building it up from Southern end of Jomthien towards north.

Sin City slowly sinking into oblivion

Looks like many didnt read the article.

Reasons why in these transparent, social media times savvy tourists are choosing to go elsewhere for beach holidays like Cambodia and Vietnam, and even Bali.

I imagine a tourist that has never been to Pattaya OR to Thailand previously even considers any of the reason listed above - they have not after all seen it or experienced it for themselves. They are going elsewhere and not coming for to Thailand/Pattaya for A. The Baht, B. the Baht. and C. THE BAHT !

Two things,   first  there is no prostitution in Pattaya according to officialdom

and secondly the red light districts , girly/go-go bars, massage parlours and promenade

(where you find prostitutes both male and female ) are  one of Pattaya biggest attractions !!!

It may be an attraction and is but it's one of those you have to go there to see it. Not you want to go there to be involved.  Patpong is in the same boat people go to say they were there but most just look haggle and walk on.

The solution is simple leave Pattaya alone.  The market will decide what stays and what does.

Pattaya has a beach?
